Mission: The Pak'Leth Problem
ON
Mignon was again wandering the station, meeting staff and familiarizing herself with the station -- or parts of it as it was far too large for her to really become. The rumbling of her stomach reminded her it was past lunchtime, so she stepped into the nearest restaurant to grab a bite to eat.
When she got herself a meal she looked for a place to sit down. The room was busy and most of the tables were full. Mignon noticed Commander Von at a nearby table and walked over to her. "Hi. Do you mind if I join you?"
Liarra smiled and gestured to the seat in front of her. "Not at all. Please, have a seat. Have you been getting settled?"
"Mostly. My office is set up. But I'm going back and forth between settling in and meeting the crew. Breaks up the monotony," Mignon chuckled. She sat down opposite the Commander. "How are you doing?"
"I'm doing pretty good, all things considered. With Commander Reinhart away, and all the recent traffic, it's been pretty hectic around here." Liarra took a bite of her salad. "I can't really complain though. I enjoy my job."
"Enjoying your job is great. There's little worse than being in a job you hate. It causes all sorts of mental and physical problems," Mignon said. "What do you like to do outside work?"
Liarra was a little surprised by the question. As the station's second officer, the chief of strategic operations, and now the commanding officer of the Jackal, it didn't feel like she had much time to herself. She figured she'd have to dig deep to answer this one. "Well," she starts to reply, drawing out her thoughts, "I do like checking out a holonovel when I have a chance, or just curling up with an actual book in my quarters. Sometimes I'll grab a drink, or maybe fire off a few power cells in the shooting range. The truth is, Counselor, I enjoy what I do too much to really take time off."
"There is that, but it's still a good thing to have something you can do to unwind. It helps you keep a healthy balance. Sadly, part of my job is to remind people of that." Mignon grinned. "Then again, the shooting range is a great way to let off some steam."
"You'd be surprised how relaxing it can be, Counselor. Maybe you can join me sometime. It might give you some ideas for future patients."
"Sounds interesting. I'm a proponent of non-traditional methods if they bring about the desired results," Mignon said.
She finished her meal and stood. "Thank you for sharing your table. I enjoyed our chat. Please stop by counseling to take your written evaluation sometime in the next week. I consider this good enough for the oral exam." She grinned. "That's mostly for me to get to know you anyway. Have a nice day!"
