Mission Summary
Life is just beginning to settle down on Starbase 332. It has been two weeks since the USS Jackal returned from 2291 and Temporal Investigations have cleared Commodore Gunning and the crew of any wrongdoing.
Commander Von & Lieutenant Commander Prax are settling into their roles as Commanding Officers of their respective vessels and have been assisting each other with command academy tasks and simulations.
James Wilson, PI is on his way to Thane with Cadet Erich Wynn in pursuit of information about a Ritorian operative who had been working aboard Starbase 332.
Commander Reinhart is continuing his Rest & Recuperation time on Pacifica while Commodore Gunning tries desperately to keep up with paperwork and requisition himself an adjunct.
The main thrust of this mission will be to build up to our first large encounter with the Ritorian Confederacy. As such, we are going to utilise the skills of our resident Private Eye to locate and report a build-up of Ritorian forces just over the border from the Thane system in the Jerl Penninsula. This will, for the purposes of this mission, be a sub-plot which will become the next mission (which will be entitled An Isolated Homestead).
This mission will take place primarily aboard Starbase 332 and will hopefully form part of an arc more like Deep Space Nine. Doctor Daniels has already reported the arrival of the Pak'Leth aboard the station, a species whose technological inability is rivalled only by their lust for money.
A ship has docked with us which has been marked out as a safety hazard by both Doctor Daniels and Lieutenant MacManus and their disembarkation rights have been revoked. The Pak'Leth crew, who are being treated for smoke inhalation, find out the news and decide to go on the run, trashing security systems and station functions in the process.
A security search of their ship reveals a large consignment of Kerva, a highly addictive narcotic which the Pak'Leth were smuggling. The hunt is on.
In trying to track down the Pak'Leth, the security forces of 332 and her garrison vessel the USS Jackal have to work together. The Pak'Leth set up a multitude of crude booby-traps as they make their escape which mean that the Hazard Team are called into play.
Meanwhile, in Ops, Commander Von desperately tries to shut down traffic in and out of the system to make sure that the Pak'Leth are unable to escape the station without being detected. Unfortunately, it is a high traffic period for the station and the procession of freighters etc. make it all-but impossible.
Elsewhere, Doctor Daniels is left with a series of medical emergencies brought about by the Pak'Leth's inability to set non-lethal booby traps while Lieutenant Commander Bastin attempts to make contact with their government in order to find out more about the crew of the ship.
The upshot of the mission will also be to find out the source of the Kerva which will, after investigation by Bastin & Prax, be shown to be the Vinarian Syndicate. The Vinarians will become important over the course of the next couple of missions for their dealings with Ferengi and Ritorian outposts.
About three-quarters of the way through this mission, Commander Von and the Jackal, along with Commander Bastin will be assigned to go to the Thane system which will lead into the next mission.
