Pak'Leth Escape

Posted on Tue Nov 15th, 2011 @ 1:16pm by 1st Lieutenant V'Shan & Lieutenant Commander Melissa Daniels M.D.

Mission: The Pak'Leth Problem
Location: Isolation Ward, Starbase 332
Timeline: MD1 1600hrs

Lieutenant V'Shan felt much more comfortable to be back in his duty uniform, and out of his environment suit, the latter of which had been overly restrictive on body movements. Now that he was actually facing the Pak'Leth whose vessel they had just investigated, he felt it satisfactory that he had regained full movement. They did not appear hostile on the outlook, but the reptilians were known to have considerable strength, and it would be illogical not to be prepared.

He entered the isolation ward with Lieutenant Dell. The station's security officer was his superior in this instance in position if not rank, and the two of them had been tasked with informing the Pak'Leth of the command staff's decision and issuing the arrest warrants. The Vulcan looked over towards the station's senior doctor as they entered.

"Commander, which of the Pak'Leth is the leader?" he asked, his tone perfectly level.

Melissa spoke, "Well, assuming the drugs that I had to give him for radiation exposure begin to thin out, you might get two words that mean something from him. He's in the Isoward's ICU at the moment, trying to regenerate tissue at the moment."

The Vulcan nodded. "The Admiral wishes us to take the Pak'Leth into Starfleet Security's custody pending further arrangements from their homeworld," he informed the doctor. "I trust that there shouldn't be a problem with that?"

Melissa spoke, "Most of the crew can be moved to detention without a problem, but some of them will have to remain here in the iso-ward. Moving them is unadvised, as they're trying to regenerate vital organs at the moment." She noted.

The Vulcan nodded. He had anticipated something similar to that response, but it still was less than ideal, as it would mean the security arrangements would become more troublesome. "Very well. I will ensure that a security detail is assigned to the isolation ward at all times until they are fit to be moved."

As the Vulcan approached the forcefield that was keeping the Pak'Leth within the isolation zone, he turned and looked at the largest of the reptilians. His garb was clearly individual amongst the other Pak'Leth in the medical ward, and it was logical to assume that he would be their leader. With a small but perceptible move of his head, the reptilian made that assumption clear to be correct, and V'Shan turned to give a nod to the nearby technician, who lowered the force field.

"I am Lieutenant V'Shan of the United Federation of Planets," he began stoicly. "I have been ordered to inform you that we will be holding you and your crew here on the station, pending an investigation into your activities in this region, and the dangerous state of your vessel."

"You will be taking us into custody?" the commander responded, his voice raspy.

Before the Vulcan lieutenant could respond, one of the Pak'Leth's subordinates; who had been very twitchy for all of the time that V'Shan had been occupying the same room and able to observe him for seemed to 'break'; he hissed something that the universal translator had difficulty understanding, and amid a loud growl of an instruction from his commander, lunged at the hazard officer. V'Shan barely blinked as he fired his phaser at the individual, watching the unconscious figure fall to the deck between his original position and V'Shan, before re-holstering his weapon. It had been logical based upon the individual's observed behaviour thus far to assume a rash action may be imminent upon the deliverance of bad news.

The Pak'Leth commander traded a barbed stare at his other subordinates, silently warning them not to do anything similarly stupid as their unconscious shipmate was dragged off by medics towards a biobed. "That is correct," V'Shan answered smoothly. He presented the PADD that he had brought with him. "This is a warrant issued by the local governing authority authorising me to take you into our custody. I have agreed with Doctor Daniels that those of your crew who are of a sufficiently poor state of health shall remain here in the isolation ward under guard until fit enough to be moved."

It was when the Vulcan stepped forward to hand the Pak'Leth the PADD with the warrant on it for inspection that the unexpected attack came. The reptilians all seemed to move as one mind; Dell, V'Shan and Daniels were all quickly knocked down and dazed by the force of the unforeseen attacks, as were any security guards who had been present in the room. By the time the Vulcan's vision had cleared, the room was empty of all Pak'Leth save the one he had stunned moments prior.

"Lieutenant V'Shan to Ops," he said into his communicator as he gingerly pushed himself up. "We have a security breach. The Pak'Leth are loose on the station."
