Establishing A Base

Posted on Tue Nov 15th, 2011 @ 7:46am by Major Michael Dodgers Jr. & Captain Alexander Gunning

Mission: The Pak'Leth Problem
Location: Starbase 332 - Admiral Gunning's Office

Dodger had finished unpacking, and with the surprise visit of the station XO over, he decided it was time to report in to the admiral. It was best to clear up any differences right away, and establish an effective way to cooperate. After all, with the 14th permanently reassigned to this station, marines would be flooding the station soon, and order needed to be maintained. Hopefully the admiral would see that the marines needed a different approach from starfleet personnel, and that Dodger would be making sure they'd receive it.

As he arrived at the office he chimed in.

Gunning's feet hit the floor rapidly as he had been taking a moment to relax. Sure, having Commander Reinhart back was a small blessing but he was still involved in more paperwork than he'd care to be. Luckily for him, he was able to take a quick break in the less formal seating area, out of sight of the glass doors. "Come in." He said simply, releasing the latch on the door and allowing them to part in front of his guest.

Dodger entered the office and looked around, seeing the admiral sitting, not at his desk but in a separate seating area. He walked over and stood at attention. "Major Michael Dodgers jr reporting in sir."

"Ahh, Major." Gunning said, motioning toward a chair. "Do take a seat. It's good to have you and your unit aboard. How are you finding your accomodations?"

Dodger sat down, and nodded "The quarters are nice, although I might consider requesting bunks closer to the marine facilities, the senior officers' area is beautiful, but I'd like to be closer to my men, just in case." He looked at the admiral, then added "sir"

"As for the offices, I guess I'll be a burden on your Ops and engineering departments for a bit yet, sir. There's just a lot of work to do with the entire HQ being placed here now."

"I reckon we can sort that out for you, Major." Gunning replied, taking a quick note to expedite the request with the Quartermaster's people, "Well, I'm quite sure that Ops will be delighted to help. I've been looking back through the records and we've never had any Marine detachments on the station. I think that shows the renewed importance of this location to the Fleet."

Dodger nodded "Yes sir, this place will become the center of what promises to be the federation's biggest pushes in a long time. I guess you can expect quite a bit of company coming by here" He smiled "And it seems quite a bit of that company will be my marines."

"I'm pleased to hear it." Gunning answered honestly. He hadn't had much occasion to meet Marines over the last few years and he imagined their presence might be an interesting change of pace for the usual civilian/Starfleet interactions.
