Mission: The Invasion of Thane
Location: Deck 13, Chief Strategic Operations Office
Timeline: MD01 - 0850hrs - Launch - 1hr

The meeting with the Captain had been remarkably uneventful for the new Intelligence Chief and she was grateful enough for that. She was certainly aware of the situation that was developing in the region, the reports to Starfleet Intelligence on the matter had noticeably increased in the past months, but, as she had said to the Captain, they were nothing in place of first hand experience.

Suder pressed the chime for the Strategic Operations office with little apprehension or sense of disquiet. She had worked with frequently with SO officers in the past and had always found them to be some of the most reasonable and easy to work with individuals in the fleet. She mentally reviewed what she had read about the Commander, absently straightening one cuff before the call to enter came.

Commander Von laid down her PADD at the sound of the chime. The new chief intelligence officer was on her way, and it was up to Liarra to brief her on the situation. She seemed to be right on time. "Come in."

Palabra entered on command and offered the woman her hand as she approached the desk. "Lt. Suder, m'am."

"Commander Von," Liarra replied, extending her hand to shake Suder's. "Please, have a seat."

"Thank you, Commander." Suder obeyed, taking the opportunity to study the SO Officer as they both took their seats. She had always gotten on well with Trill, even if she did envy their ability to simply join with several lifetimes worth of knowledge and was looking forward to working with the efficient young officer.

Liarra leaned back in her chair. "I'll get right to the point, Lieutenant. You've joined us at an interesting time. We've discovered that the Pak'Leth have been smuggling for the Ritorians through Federation space. However, the Pak'Leth government are denying that anything is even happening."

The Trill continued. "It's possible that the Ritorians have learned that their friends have been compromised. While they've shown signs of force before, our intelligence suggests that they may be planning to take the Thane system with a small force. As you may know, the Thane system lies in a strategic peninsula into Ritorian space, and we believe they feel it is theirs by right."

"We have orders straight from the commander of the Eleventh Fleet to take all operational ships in the sector to Thane. Our hope is to avoid war, but we can't tolerate the Ritorians threatening our territory." Von hands a PADD over to Suder. "This includes everything we know so far about Thane. Captain Gunning wants you to be well versed in the situation. He needs you for mission support aboard the Antietam."

Suder nodded, letting everything that Liarra told her soak in. With the intelligence officer given everything she needed to know, Liarra dismissed her, returning to her own preparation for the coming mission.
