[Shuttlebay 9 - Deck 122]

Naomi, kitbag in hand, exited the transport, in a special carry bag she had her twin Katana blades, stepping onto the busy station she took a moment to get her bearings, then spotted a turbolift and headed to it.

As she entered and the doors closed.

"Captain Gunning" She said. The lift took her to where the base's Captain was currently.

[Main Operations - Deck 12]

Gunning's irritation was quite clear to the Petty Officer who ill-advisedly held out the message from the Dockmaster in front of him. This was the first time he had come across the Captain of the station, usually being resigned to the lower docking bays. It was just typical that he'd get picked to deliver bad news and now, here he was being blasted in front of the entire base's Operations Centre.

"I don't care what Lieutenant Irita says," Gunning continued as he tuned back in to what he was saying. Much as he wanted to show the Captain some respect, the old adage of 'don't shoot the messenger' leapt to mind and refused to budge, "I'm not going to a command briefing that will take more than a day to get to in a Type Six shuttle. What does she think this is, some sort of power play?"

"I don't know, sir." The Petty Officer conceded quietly.

"Yeah, well, it's not your fault kid." Gunning replied as he took the PADD from him. "I'll speak to Lieutenant Irita myself. Why don't you go and give Strat Ops a hand; they've got a lot of incoming traffic today."

The Petty Officer jumped at the chance. He was being allowed to stay in Ops and he'd managed to exonerate himself of the blame. The Captain was right enough, Lieutenant Irita was probably on one of her idiotic power plays. She seemed to believe that vessel requisition was a privilege and not a right, even trying to squeeze the senior staff into a tiny shuttle for their journey to Cestus III.

As the lift doors opened she stepped out, walked up to the guy in Command Red who had four pips, she dropped her items and came to attention and saluted.

"Marine Captain Naomi Sylan Lanpya Griffiths reporting Sir." She said.

She waited till he turned to face her.

Gunning brought himself to bear on the voice slowly, still apoplectic at the wording of Irita's requisition refusal. He looked above the PADD and noticed the grey shoulders of one of the old Starfleet uniforms. He'd only had his new one for a week and suddenly he came to realise how tired the old fatigues looked. The collar, green. The hair, a shock of blonde held up by something that appeared to defy gravity.

He cocked his head to one side as he tried to place the Marine Captain standing before him. "Oh, of course!" He exclaimed. "You're Gifford's new ex-oh, aren't you? Glad you could make it, Captain."

"Thank you Sir," She said lowering her arm, "is there anything I need to know before I report to Major Gifford?" She asked picking up her kitbag and special case that held her twin Katana blades and their sheaths. Different Uniforms, this will take some getting used to, she thought to herself.

"I've only met him the once," Gunning replied tentatively, wracking his brains for something he could give the nervous officer by way of encouragement, "He's definitely a man who knows what he wants and knows damn well how to get it. It seems like he takes his responsibilities very seriously indeed."

"Thank you Sir, with you permission I will go see him, where might I find the good Major?" she asked

Gunning looked round, not quite sure how to react. The irritation that he felt with Lieutenant Irita was still present but he didn't want to be too antagonistic towards this poor new-start. "I'm not sure, probably in the Marine Section. Deck One Hundred and Twenty One."

"Thank you Sir and for future reference, call me Griff, should the situation warrant it." She said with a sweet smile.

"I'll take that under advisement, Captain." He replied with a wry smile.

Nodding and leaving when she was dismissed, entering the turbolift she had it take her to Gifford's last known location.
