Mission: The Mystery Men of Mira
Location: Faculty Lounge [Archa Institute]
Timeline: Prior To The Murder on the Station

::ON::

Tammy was hopeful some of the Newly arrived Department Chiefs from the starbase would arrive to the event. The Faculty lounge was decorated with artifacts and works of art from the planet and its surrounding system. The food was buffet style and light featuring many dishes of local variety. Most of the Institutes faculty were present and moving about with a full plate and a wary eye on any potential funds donor. Olinski was surprised to see many Fleet Officers attending. Most were Grad students at the Institute seeking to advance their careers through education. And the money they brought in sure helped. Tammy made every attempt to remember their first name when greeting them. This was the first social gathering of the year and many of the citizens looked forward to the event that was a two day ball and barbeque party for people to get to know each other.. She was tapped on the shoulder by her assistant Rhonda who nodded towards the entrance doors to the hall. Two Men had just arrived, One she recognized immediately as Reggie Eito a well known Federation Engineer. The one beside him was much taller and she was stumped.. Making her way to them she grabbed a few champagne glasses...

"Reginald Eito!, It is a pleasure to meet you Sir." She handed Eito and the taller gentleman each a glass.

Eito smiled. "You're Doctor Olinski, I hope." He said looking up at the woman. "Thank You for inviting us to join you. Please allow me to introduce my friend Jon Gifford. John is the Marine Commander for the Archanis Sector." Reggie took the glass from Tammy and sipped its contents..

"Glad to meet you Doctor. And thanks for the invite. I couldn't help but admire your campus."

"Tammy shook the Major's hand. She remembered him now.. Damn, how could she forget this guy. "John I understand you attended Frunze in Moscow. That must have been fantastic." She was on to the pitch now. We must get together and allow me to show you the Institute. Your expertise would be of great help to our Engineering and Leadership schools." Tammy saw her Engineering department head and grabbed him by the arm as he walked buy.

"Lenard Wells, please meet Reginald Eito." The mans eye's lit up. "Really, this is a honor. I have read many of your dissertations on composite materials."

Nvaiden slipped into the rear of the room as best he could. The issue of the grey trim of his uniform and the fact that he looked conspicuously Romulan meant that his understated entrance soon turned into a collection of excited academics smiling and motioning towards him. He was uncomfortable; massively uncomfortable and this "gathering" went against his better judgement.

Gifford was watching as Reggie Eito was sucked into a academic discussion of epic proportions. He saw Nvaiden and walked over. "Good evening Lieutenant, how are you?"

Nvaiden grunted something incoherent then changed his gaze to look at the Major. "I am in good health, Major. How are you?"

"I'm good, quite a gathering, wouldn't you agree? Would you be here as a guest or official business?" John was certain by the Lieutenants mood wild horses couldn't have brought him if it wasn't one of his planned agendas.

"My presence is part of a 'trust exercise', I believe Commander Bastin called it." Nvaiden's eyes wandered the room, never falling on anyone for more than a second and never making eye contact. "He believes that The Archan Institute holds the Starfleet Intelligence Service up as some kind of nefarious organization."

"Interesting, By the looks of our wonderful host I would say they just want the money. However a University is indeed a great place to hide and gather information. I tend to trust people, but seldom the group they are employed by."

"I would suggest the opposite of Starfleet Intelligence, Major." Nvaiden replied, much more openly than he usually permitted himself. "The organization is trustworthy but so many operatives of the service have their own agendas. It comes from the fact that so few people question the actions of Intelligence Officers. They think us all spies to a man."

Gifford smiled. "My entire academy class was packed with intel Officers. After spending Four years with them I always considered them a asset. I can personally state that many of my Marines are still alive because a Starfleet intel officer told me to shut up and listen..."

"I'm quite sure, Major." Nvaiden replied dismissively. "I can personally state that I have seen more Intelligence officers reveal themselves to be the worst kind of scum available. I can only assume that it is all a matter of perspective."

Gifford was about to respond to the Lieutenant when Tammy Olinski returned followed by Two young Women dressed in evening attire holding drinks.

"Lieutenant Nvaiden, so glad you could make it tonight. Allow me to introduce Rebbecca Simmons a senior in our Language institute. And Deloris Mallory an assistant department adviser in Culinary Arts. I couldn't stand the thought of you two handsome star fleet officers talking shop over here in the corner."

Nvaiden ignored the obvious flattery of the Faculty Member. He was not handsome; in fact he was completely standard for a Nequencian. "It's a pleasure to meet you." He said as he regarded each woman in turn with a curt nod.

Gifford took a quick drink. "Tell me Ladies, what brings you to this event. Surely there must be a trail of young men hunting you down this evening.."

Gifford received a priority message on his padd to return to the station Immediately, there was some issue with security forces looking for a few people and his XO seemed concerned. "Well ladies I'm afraid I must leave you for this evening, but I'm sure we shall meet again soon." He turned a nodded at the Intelligence officer and found his way to the door.

The evening had gone well, see did however note that something had occurred regarding the Station. As the evening progressed news came of some type of alert as more Fleet officers departed. Then word of an actual Murder, and news that a Marine Officer had been shot and killed. It was horrible...
