Erica was lead to a room that had one occupant and an empty bed. Since both were Ensigns. It would work out nicely. The nurse had to cut away the her uniform jacket and undershirt to avoid knocking off the plaster skullcap that provided protection for a cracked skull. She put on the gown and helped onto the biobed as her ruined uniform was taken away. She looked over at the other patient which was also female.

Erica just nodded to the other lady as she covered up with the blankets and got comfortable. It was obvious she was part of the Command Team or Held an important job on the bridge by her uniform color which showed a few darker stains that confirmed that she saw action or was involved in a bad accident.

Serious injuries always struck a chord with Corrine Steiner. Maybe it was because of how deeply she herself was affected, she felt a strong empathy. She slipped out of her bed and approached cautiously, "Hey. I'm Corrie." She glanced up at the diagnostic readout, "Nasty crack on the head!"

"You ought to see the shuttle." Erica motioned for Corrine to have a seat in the chair for visiters to sit in. "Erica." She waited till Corrine gotten comfortable. "What are you in here for?" Ears perked up through the earholes of the plaster skullcap and tried to swivel towards Corrine, but jerked and twitched as the fur gotten stuck in the dried plaster. She gave a soft growl, raising her hands to free the fur from the plaster where it had been clawed a few times.

Corrie scratched at her head for a moment, "Ohh, I got phasered on a setting usually reserved for Klingons. Your starbase captain has been kind enough to grant me sanctuary, take me into her staff. I'm hoping they'll turn me loose soon so I can help out with operations."

Erica paused in freeing the ear as she looked at Corrine. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. But what did you do to make them upset at you?" She tilted her head a bit to show she was very interested in what she had to say. As it was known that Klingons don't let their victims get away from them that easily.

Corrie's lips pursed. Traces of perspiration began to appear. Her voice was controlled, but barely so. "Starfleet intel was after me. I refused enlistment as a laboratory rat."

Erica looked over Corrine with an appraising look. "Lab-rat? You don't look anything that special, Corrine. To gain anyone's interest, unless it's some lonely male looking for companionship." She met Corrine's eyes and held them. She was definitely curious about Corrine.

Corrie let out a shaking sigh, "If only it were that easy. Let's just say that I've had it with people trying to tamper with my brain and leave it at that." She caught herself beginning to shake. She thought to herself, ~This has really gotten to me.~

Softly Erica involuntary growled, "You a telepath?" Sounding a bit wary while keeping her voice soft in a neutral tone. Seeing her begin to shake, Erica tone softened even more. "I don't think Starfleet would allow such things to happen. They would study you, but would not tamper with you physically."

Corrie's eyelids half closed, her eyes losing focus, "No... I'm not a teep." She began to pace around. She wanted to throw something at an absent enemy. "The Starfleet you know is different from the Starfleet I know." She took a deep breath and exhaled hard, "I mustn't be talking like this!" She looked to Erica, "I'm sorry. I guess that I haven't recovered as much as I thought."

"You're going to have to face it sooner or later. Would it help if I gave my word to keep it between us?" Erica spoke with sincerity as she was definitely curious at what got Corrine so emotionally upset. "I'm in flight department and senior pilot for the USS Jackel. So if you feel like running someplace or get away from here for a bit. Come see me and we'll take a flight to Archia IV for the day."

Corrie forced herself to take a calming breath. After several moments of silence, she whispered, "You'll find out in time." She stared off, losing focus, "Someone always finds out."

Erica gave the distraught Corrine a nod and let the matter go. She just hoped that Corrine wasn't one of those friendly people one moment and then your worse nightmare. She watched Corrine the way an alley cat would watch another alley cat crossing their territory.
