Showdown at the OK Corral

Mission: Communication Breakdown
Location: Sojourner Communications Station
Timeline: Current

"Captain, I said what I did, because you will need all the advantages when doing your cavalry act, it would be illogical to assume the Sorjourners will not be looking out for more infiltrators after my Squad makes its presence known"

"I am aware of that Major, this is not my first combat engagement." S'er'in'e replied. He understood her need to be clear, and her orders were just that but he wondered if like others had she was underestimating him because his training and majority of experience came from the Homeworld and not SFMC. "I understand the orders given to me and what I must do."

With this task done Griffith took her team away from the LZ and into the forest, all of Omega Squad remained silent, they knew what to do and did not need to verbilize, all had sub-dermal comm implants so they removed their Commbadges and put them away. Their uniforms were black and green pattern and were the type that would shake of any stain's they may pick up. They were very surprised that there were no patrols this far into the trees, but they well knew that Alpha team would not have it so easy.

Now the Squadr pauses at the edge of the forest, but well within the shadows as Griffiths scans the area.

"Damn its a big facility, snipers take out all look out towers nearest our entry point, then work around and take care of the rest of the towers, when complete remain on watch, any hostiles give no quarter, because if we fail this mission non will be given" She ordered.

"Yes Sir" All four snipers replied and one took out the two towers close to where they would enter then joined the other snipers as they fanned out, now with the way clear Griffiths moved her group in silently killing the walking patrol guards.

It did not take long for Omega to infiltrate the facility and locate the listening unit, now they dug in as the groups techs got to work downloading the data, while the demolition guy prepped their spatial charges to destroy the array. They placed guards at key points around the listening device and others dug a shallow trench. Griffiths knew it was low tech, but it would offer her people some protection when the Sorjourners realized that their listening post was now in enemy hands.

"Oh, oh!" Came a sudden exlamation from one of the techs.

"What is it?" Griffiths asked.

He looked up at her with an apologetic look "It seems Sir that upon accessing the data I sent a signal to the enemy, we have about ten minutes tops before they come-a-calling" The tech reported.

"Oh great! Nice going marine, well just download everything you can, demo squad begin setting those charges, the rest of you dig in, we are going to have company" She said and walked over to the marine holding a portable sensor unit "How are we looking?"

"They have definately been alerted Major, there are patrol squads out in the forest encircling us while a large body of troops is coming at us from compass points North, East and West, we are lucky we have a mountain to our rear, a damn tall one at that too, but basically we will soon be blocked off. If I were them I would have a Comms jammer with me, if you are going to call for help then do it now, or at least warn the Captain" The Marine said.

"Thanks" She said then run over to the dish to hide behind as she pulled out her Commbadge, it had more range on it than their sub-dermal implants, she tapped the Commbadge.

"Okay we no longer have communications or anyway to get word out, we are on our own until the cavalry arrive" She said as the first enemy burst into the open only to be mowed down by marine fire.

It started slow, but only picked up speed and momentum as all Sojourner troops came into range and they were not happy that someone was messing with their listening device, as predicted they gave no quarter and got none in return. Every now and then she heard some marines anounce they were reloading charge packs into their weapons.

- Landing Zone -

S'er'in'e quickly established a base from which to operate while they waited. The Major was off doing her thing and while S'er'in'e was not completly confident with the plan laid out and despite his teams of scouts a ways off from his location, he'd do what he could in the mean time.

His teams were set up in defensive positions and heavily armed marines were in place with overlapping fields of fire but the site chosen for his position was not ideal. As briefed there were walls but they were in poor condition from prolonged exposure to the elements. Large gaps in places, rubble everywhere, moss and weeds made some areas slippery for footing.

"Sir, scouts report weapons fire from the Major's location."

"Very well, gather 12 men have them meet me here in 3 minutes, the rest will stay here and protect the extraction site. 55 armed Marines plus heavy weapon turrets should pose a significant force to go up against.When the men were ready he left the 60 marines under the command of a 1st Lieutenant, his orders were to hold this location and maintain a viable extraction site for mission exit.

"Let's go, dual squad coloumn formation. I will lead." He would depend on his eyesite, it was suited to night time and his ears might be able to pick up something if they were quiet enough in moving.

- Comms Array -

Back at the Comms array Omega Squad troopers were fighting for their lives, while their tech downloaded everything she could, she would rather have decrypted it first, but it was actually quicker this way. By the time the tech announced that she had finished there were a lot of dead Sorjouner bodies, a few of the marines got hit, it was sheer luck that there were currently no fatalities.

"Major data downloaded" The tech announced.

"Good have the demo teams plant their charges" Griffiths said as the Cavalry arrived.

Captain S'er'ine's team made a gap for the Omega's and Griffiths was not about to wast the opportunity.

"Captain Smith get the wounded out of here, I and three others will give cover fire for the demo teams, now go!" She said making sure the Captain understood, he did and nodded.

As Smith began pulling the injured out the demo leader announced that his team was done "Excellent, now lets get us outta here" Griffiths said and along with the demo team run through the gap the cavalry had made.

Now Omega Squad plus their techs were out S'er'ine followed them into the forest just as an explosion, followed by a bright light and followed by a pressure wave knocking some marines down, all who promptly got back up.

Looking at the Demo team leader "What in the name of the Prophets did you do?" She asked.

"I set a fail-safe, should the charges be tampered with, then boom, I was hoping we would be off planet before they tried to fiddle with the charges, I obviously thought they had better self control!" The demo leader said.

"You know what thought did El tee"

He looked at the Major "I know" He simply said as they melted into the undergrowth of the forest leaving behind utter chaos.

With a smile Griffiths looked around as her marines returned to the LZ, knnowing that the marines left there would be contacting the shuttle to come and pick them up. It took about an hour for them to return to the LZ and the shuttle was waiting for them. Like well oiled machines the marines quickly boarded the shuttle and it quickly left, the moment it cleared the trees and raised its shields the shuttle was attacked by some Sorjourner fighters, these attack craft were not space-wirthy so with the shuttle beating a hasty retreat for space it left its attackers flat-footed as the atmmosphere went from a light blue to a dark blue then finally black with stars.

At this time Griffiths went forward to sit with the pilot and she utilitized the Comms, turned off the shuttles Universal translator and spoke in Bajoran, as she did this she heard confusion in the back as all the marines suddenly lost all abilitity to communicate in the same language, looking at the pilot and putting on an innocent face and with a shrug put the translator back on.

"Set a course for this location" Griffiths said as a Sorjourner Cruiser was closing in on them, the pilot did not question she just did and the shuttle went to warp.

It was but a few hours they were at warp when they dropped from warp a strange looking ship came up from behind flight deck doors open "stop all engines, they are with me, I called them" Griffiths said.

Marine Captain Jeff Smith came forward "is that ship what I think it is Major?" He asked.

Without looking at him "Yes Captain it is a Xindi Aquatic Cruiser, they will take us to Starbase 332, we could have never outrun that cruiser for long" She said and as if on cue the Sorjourner Cruiser dropped from warp but could only see a Xindi ship, as they had no quarrel with the species they watched the Xindi ship go to warp.

- Six Days Later - Starbase 332 -

Much to the surprise of 332 flight controllers the Xindi ship discorged its charge, on the shuttle they could hear a mechanical response.

=/\= Thank you and it is, farewell =/\= Griffiths said but the ship did not respond it just came about and left the area.

After gaining clearance the pilot landed the shuttle as Griffiths returned to the rear compartment "Okay debrief in twenty minutes in the marine situation room, away with you" She said.

As the marines disembarked Griffiths and the pilot followed suit, Griffiths tapped her Commbadge =/\= Major Griffiths to Commander Gunning =/\=

The voice of Commander Jordan Gunning crackled back through the communications array of the badge. The signal was suffering some degradation from somewhere. "Gunning here."

=/\= Omega Squad and company returning from the Sorjourner planet, the Communications had been eliminated, we managed to download the data before blowing it up, will send the data to decrypt. I am about to debrief my team; just wanted to let you know that our mission was successful and would be happy if you passed this onto the Captain =/\= Griffiths reported.

"Acknowledged Major." Gunning's voice was coming through much clearer as the Major moved further out of the hangar area. "Welcome home. Gunning out."

As the Comms went silent she looked back at her exhausted troops, her mission had been a success and of that she was happy, now all she had to do was freshen up then give the mission debrief.
