Location: Deep Space, Archa Sector
Timeline: Deep of the Night

[ON]

A Barbary Class raider shuddered harshly out of hyperspeed into normal space. Internal sirens had been muted, but the alert lighting still flashed.

The captain demanded,"Damage report!"

"A primary shield generator is damaged beyond field repair. The others are stressed, but it looks like they can be restabilized."

One of the mercs angrily vented, "We launched our pilums!"

Gavich retorted, "We'd be dead if we hadn't. Stop complaining."

"We need to go back and refit!"

"Are you kidding? Go running home to mommy-spacedock each time the ship gets scratched?"

"Scratch? You're full-"

The XO interrupted, "Enough! Gavich! A word."

The two stepped out into an empty passage. "Scuttlebutt is that you have your own private operation going on here."

"If I do, it's my business."

"Not if you put my ship in danger, it isn't!"

"Mister Cobalt signed off on it. That should be good enough for you."

The XO shook his head, "What you do might be your business. How you do it might affect me."

The veteran fighter nodded, "Okay. Fair enough. Starfleet skunk ops hired me for a grab."

"Sojourner?"

"A fleeter, Starbase."

His eyes widened, "Are you mad? At a time like this?"

"It's the best of times. Chaos is coming to this sector."

"This ship isn't going anywhere near a Fed base."

"No need for it to. I've a rendezvous scheduled."

"Your mark, anybody I need to be warned about?"

"Dunno. Dangerous is all I've been told."

A voice sounded over the intercom, =/Stealth mode is engaged. Proceeding to Point Beta.\=

Gavich prepared to depart, "Drop me in a skiff. If all goes well, I'll link up with you at Charlie."

"If you fail your mission, we're not coming to bail you out. If you're not at Point Charlie, we leave without you."

"I'm more likely to show up there than you are."

The XO nodded, "Getting those high priced Ferengi executives past the Sojourner blockade is going to be a tough nut to crack. Good luck."

"I'd prefer divine intervention, but I'll take good luck."
