"I'll start the main power failure now," Austin said, punching in commands into his console. "Here we go... sensors... weapons... life support... warp... impulse... it's all down. They can't move, can't defend themselves, and worse of all, they've got no life support... that they know of, anyway" He said with a smile.
[Cargo Bay - Deck 8]
As soon as power failed, Jasmine triggered her diagnostic suites again. The results didn't make sense. She took off in a dash, "Manual overrides." She knew where the engineers should be going and what they should be doing. Rather than putting in an appearance to offer help, she went off in a different direction. Good plans need backups, safety nets.
Running into the shuttle bay, a mechanic hurried over under the dim glow of emergency lamps, "What's happening?"
"I don't know! But first priority is life support! I want to use small ship reactors. Can you help me patch in umbilical lines?"
"I can, but where?"
She ran close and displayed from her wrist holopadd, "Here?"
He nodded, calming considerably, "You open panels on the birds! I'll spool the cables!" There was something about having a plan which allayed fears.
She tapped her combadge, "Jasmine to Damage Control... I'll have basic life support back online in three minutes!"
[Main Bridge - Deck 1]
Errowyn jumped as a few warning buzzers sounded on the Op's panel which drew her attention. "Wha..."
The operations officer spoke up, "Power fluctuation in the lower decks. Looks like its hasn't spread yet. But will certainly interfere with the transfer of cargo."
Errowyn made a funny face. "Keep me informed." Looking serious as she thought. "May have to return SB 332 if things get worse." Not wanting to take the Wainwright into a hostile situation near a heavy contended border.
"Uhm... it's spreading..." Tim said, sounding worried. "It's .... oh crap..." The bridge went Red and the klaxon sounded, "It's just gone ship wide. We've got nothing. No sensors, no impulse, no warp, no life support... Sit rep, NOW!" Tim called looking around the bridge for someone to give him answers.
Operations officer spoke up, "Cascading system failures across the ship." Yelled to be heard over the Klaxons. "I'm assigning all non-essential personnel to assist engineering to get the system up and running."
Errowyn nodded her approval, "Shut that damn klaxon off!" And it went silent. The red flashing lights went steady on. "Switch to back-up power immediately!" Giving the order. "Start with getting life support back online first. Then sensors next and after that propulsion." Looking thoughtful as she stood with a big goofy grin as she was loving every moment of the situation.
[Monitoring Room - Deck 7]
"Very nice, Lieutenant." Jordan nodded appreciatively as the 'power failure' took hold all across the ship, sending cadets scuttling to duty stations and forcing open powered doors. "Any more surprises for our cadets?"
"Well... I did have a few ideas for a more... intense simulation. No one would be in any real danger, just blow a few plasma conduits and turn off the inertial dampeners while I strategically fire off the maneuvering thrusters... and .... you know... possibly rig the sensors to tell them that they're under attack by the Sojourners... or... you know... something like that." Austin explained with a wry grin.
"How about some local gravity disruptions?" the Aenar asked casually. "I remember those being a rather interesting part of my training runs. Should make life a bit more difficult for them while they try to restore main power."
"Whatever you think we can get away with, let's make it happen."
