Welcome Wagon

Posted on Wed Oct 7th, 2015 @ 10:18pm by Lieutenant Alana Tovan & Lieutenant William O'Hara Jr

Mission: By Dawn's Early Light
Location: Transporter Room

Bill stayed in his state room on the vanguard for his trip to the Starbase 332 that he was assigned to with no warning or reason. It was not his place to question the command decisions of a superior. He Laid the book down he was reading. As he started to wonder about his family and especially his little brother Wyatt.

His eyes looked out towards the view port as the stars passed at light speed. He hoped all was well with him and his assignment. Last report was that Wyatt's ship was hit by an old class space mine. The higher ups haven't heard from anyone from his ship in sometime. And there was no ship going out to check on them since the fleet was tied up else where. "God! Wyatt come home safe and sound." William spoke softly to himself as he continued to look out the window. As the ship slipped out of warp and moved to impulse as he felt the transition through the chair he was sitting in.

"I guess we have arrived." William said softly to himself. As the com went off asking him to report to the transporter room. He grabbed his gear that sat by the door. He quickly picked up his stuff as the doors opened to a rather quiet corridor.

He made his way to the transporter room. the doors opened to an empty transporter room other then a transporter operator. "I guess its time?" William asked the operator. "Yeap! It sure is! Sir!" the ensign said with a polite smile.
William moved over and up onto the transporter pad. William turned back around to face the operator. "Well lets do it I know this ship is needed else where and there not going to wait on me." William said quickly. "Good Journey Ensign." As the console beeped the all clear for transport.

A moment later he was devolving off the one pad and rematerializing on the new sleek looking transporter room of the station. "Wow!" was one of the only words expressed at the site of the new location and a monstrous transporter operator that stood behind the console. "Permission to come aboard?" William croaked out quickly. "Granted Sir! Granted!" The Large giant man looking about 7 foot tall responded to him with a polite smile.

"Thank you!" William said quickly and moved to the waiting area of the transporter room that was empty. "Was I expected?" William asked the tall man. "Yes sir! They will be here shortly." the man said kindly. "I want to apologize for the shock I displayed earlier at the first glimpse of you as I can in from transport." William said quickly.

"No problem sir! no apologizes needed." The man smiled. back at William. "I am Lt. William O'Hara everyone calls me bill." William commented. "Nice to meet you sir! I am Ensign Marcus Perkins. Nice to meet you Bill." Marcus said with a kind face. "We will talk later."

A moment later Marcus went quiet as the doors of the transporter room opened.

Awaiting patiently on the other side of the transporter room door was a diminutive woman in a gold operations uniform leaning against the bulkhead. Her raven black hair was hanging loose, covering both sides of her face. The woman was apparently engrossed by the information on her PADD when the doors opened. She glanced up Bill momentarily before going back to the PADD to mark her place. She stood up away from the wall and stepped toward the new arrival. "Lieutenant O'Hara?" she asked bluntly.

"Yes Lieutenant I am Lt. O'Hara!" William said quickly to the new arrival. "And you are?" He asked calmly to the new arrival. "Its nice to have a welcoming committee as long as it dont involve the brig?" he said is jokingly

The woman gave him and odd look, until she realized that he had been joking. She shook her head. "No, it doesn't involve the brig." She extended her hand to greet him. "Lieutenant Alana Tovan. I'm one of your fellow engineers."

"Hello Lt Alana Tovan Nice to meet you." William said calmly "You can call me Bill!" He said with a smile. "I guess your here to show me around?" He looked back at the the ensign on the console. "See ya around Chief!" He gave a smileand a wink before leaving. The ensign smiled back politely as they left the room.

"It's nice to meet you, Bill," Alana replied. A little surprised that he had greeted her so warmly, Tovan reached up to her hair, checking to see if her long locks were still covering her ears. Satisfied that her hair was in place, she gestured down the corridor. "I'm afraid that I won't be showing you around the entire station. As I'm sure you've noticed, it's quite big. I'll at least be taking you down to the main engineering offices and system monitoring stations."

"Well I guess I have to start somewhere?" Bill commented calmly to the officer. as he started down the corridor. "I have a feeling I will be learning a lot here." Bill said with a small smile as they walked.

Alana nodded. "It can be quite the learning experience sometimes. Have you ever served on a star base before?"

"No!Sir I have not.." Lon said calmly answering her question. as his mind felt pulled. "This will be my first assignment on a star base of any type. All my assignments have been an starships."

"You'll still get to work with starships from time to time. In addition to the station's garrison ships, engineering works with operations to see to repairs of visiting ships." Alana shrugged. "But the most unique part of our job is dealing with repairs for the civilian areas. You would be surprised what some of those shop owners can do to the equipment sometimes. It's also a big place. It can be easy to get lost, so make sure you keep track of what deck and section you are in when on a job. Twenty-five hundred decks becomes a lot more imposing when you actually need to know where things are."

"I can see how it can be imposing!" Lon commented calmly. "they never said that this job would be easy."

"It never is," Alana replied bluntly. She tried to muster a smile. "But then that's why we joined Starfleet, right?"

"Yeap! Never a dull moment in Starfleet." Lon smiled briefly.
