No Time For Orders

Posted on Fri Dec 11th, 2015 @ 1:32am by Ensign Monday Starr

Mission: By Dawn's Early Light
Location: SciLabs, Starbase 332

[ON]

A more than slightly frustrated intelligence officer hurried to keep pace with a fast walking young lady. "Ensign Starr! Would you please stop?"

"No."

"You have just been thrown across unbelievably vast expanse from a place nobody's been before!"

"Of course people have been there."

He growled, "Come here. I need to check you for little pointy ears. You know what I mean! It's going to take weeks to debrief your crew!"

She rounded the corner into the science labs, "I don't think that your Sojourners will pause their invasion plans to accommodate our debriefings."

"You're a scientist, not a soldier!"

"And science resources are vital to detect, identify, and analyze incoming threats during battle. Now please stop harassing me and go do something useful."

"Starr!" He calmed himself, "I mean... Ensign Starr. You need to follow orders. You are in Starfleet, you know! That's what we do."

"I do obey orders... at the proper time. But for now, I've got a large SciLab infrastructure with which to familiarize in a short amount of time. Computer... confirm my access registrations."

==REGISTRATIONS ACCEPTED AND AUTHORIZED BY CORRINE STEINER==

Monday powered up a console and typed flurries of command symbols, "Are you still here?"

"YES I'm still here, and you are too! That's the problem!"

"Look, Officer Benson..."

"Brenson, ma'am."

"I'm not going to remember nearly as much detail on a briefing at this time as I will later."

"You're not getting away with that, Starr. We do have lie detectors!"

Monday flashed through numerous screen displays, "Do you really think you would detect any guilt reflexes in me?"

"In you? No."

"You're still pestering me, Brensor."

"Brenson!" He efforted to speak calmly through his clenched teeth, "Look. Starr... if I have to call an officer, you'll probably go on report."

"Probably."

"I can't just cater to your whims! I have orders."

"Yes, and we have a war pending. Please move aside. I need to get in there."

Suddenly, the lights went out in the room... all of them. "What the...?"

A few moments later, lights switched back on and Monday was gone. "Starr?" He glanced around, "Starr?" He scratched his head, "That's not possible! Computer, where is Ensign Starr at this moment?"

==SCANNING... LOCATION IS INDETERMINATE.==

The intel officer closed his eyes and sighed, "A woman in her kitchen... and a scientist in her lab." Giving up, he exited and began the long walk back to Ops.
