A rumble echoed through the structure of the station as the Sojourner ships continued their relentless assault. Captain Von watched the holographic display of the battle from ops. So far the fighters and firepower from the station's defenses have made a dent in the Sojourner lines, but Vaishaa seemed to know how to keep her ships spread out. They were constantly moving, and making it difficult for them to focus their attention. Damaged ships would rotate away from the front while fresher ships moved in. All the while they hammered away at Three-Three-Two's defenses.
Another rumble shook the bulkheads, this one louder and stronger than the last. "That didn't sound good. Report!"
"Shields still holding in the lower sections, but the Sojourners have been focusing on the upper sections," Nvaiden reported from his station at strategic operations. "Upper facing shields are down to 13%." Another explosion rippled through the station. "Make that 10%, Captain."
"Make sure your troops are ready, Major," Von shouted over to Griffiths, never taking her eyes off of the tactical display in front of her. "We may be getting boarded soon."
Using her subdermal comms, Griffiths receives reports from the Marines around the station, when all reports came in she looks up at the Captain "All teams report ready Captain Sigma Team is on alert Alpha Team is on standby as is Omega Squad, so we have back up RRT units in place should they be needed" Griffiths said.
Von tapped her comm panel. "Von to Le. We're about to lose our upper shields. I hope you're doing something to keep them online!"
"Oh, I'm doing all manner of things, Captain, but there's only so much we can do with this onslaught! We're givin' 'er all we've got, but they _will_ go down if this continues!" He warned.
Von exhaled loudly. That was not the answer she was hoping for. "Von to S'er'in'e. Tell me some good news."
S'er'in'e was weaving between weapons fire, allied and enemy craft. "I wish I could Captain, enemy fleet appears to be focusing on a point in the shields, fighters are getting through, I estimate they will engage shield generators, weapon emplacements and external sensitive systems. I have already taken steps to counter."
Another explosion ripped through the station. This one was far louder than the previous ones, and came accompanied by sparks flying from the consoles in ops. Von gripped the situation table for support.
"Upper shields are down, Captain," Navaiden reported. The Nequencian was surprisingly calm given the situation.
"Then things are about to get bumpy." Von checked the power level on her sidearm, just in case.
Griffiths connected to her teams through their comms. "All defence teams report in. Which area looks like it is in need of back up?" she asked the teams. She could do nothing until she knew where to place her RRT teams as she dodged some sparks that shot out from the consoles.
Another alarm sounded, this one different from the standard red alert. Although rarely heard, Liarra recognized it immediately: Intruder Alert. "We've got incoming!" she shouted over the chaos.
As if almost on cue, transporter beams appeared near the door to the command center. Von was out in the open, but drew her phaser and fired a couple of shots before diving for cover.
Nvaiden ducked behind his console as a disruptor blast shot passed his head. The strategic operations pod was where he had been managing the station's weapons. They were going to have to rely on automated firing patterns as long as they had boarders. He reached for his own side arm, but another blast kept his head down and unable to get off a shot.
Drusus felt the static sizzle of the air as a transporter beam appeared almost exactly next to where he stood overseeing the science pod. One of the boarders materialised right next to him and, without thinking, he grabbed the man's rifle as soon as the annular confinement beam let go and shoved it back against him, smashing the butt of the weapon into his solar plexus and sending him tumbling. The Magna Roman kept hold of the weapon and quickly ducked for cover as shots started firing all around him.
Abernathy was behind the tactical console when the bridge was boarded. She took fire from boarders, the rifle blast hit the console and almost hitting her. She took cover and fired back shooting a few of the boarders. Blair rushed over to the Captain to see if she was alright.
Naomi dived for cover as more sparks exploded and the shields around the command centre went down allowing boarding teams to beam in. "Oh great, these guys again," she said glancing over to where the Captain was. Seeing Blair rush over to check on the Captain, she stood back up and pulled out her hand phaser and began shooting back at the Sojourner boarding parties, taking a few down before some more beamed in. Oh great, she thought. More party crashers. She thought about using her twin swords but a quick look at the close confines told her it was impractical and waded in with fists and feet, she could never fire a standard hand phaser that fast and the combat was now close quarters; but still she was finding it hard. "Abernathy, how is the Captain? ugh!" She said between breaths as she punched an attacking enemy putting him to the floor.
Blair pulled the Captain behind one of the console's "Ma'am, you have to stay down". As Blair stood up to return fire, one of the boarders kicked the phaser out of her hand and then kicked her in the stomach. Blair fell back against the console, the boarder pulled out a knife and attempted to stab Blair but she quickly moved and the knife went through the console shocking the boarder, Blair then kicked him in the ribs and hit him in the face with a palm strike knocking him to the ground and out. Another boarder came up behind she and took a swing at her, she blocked, hit him in the neck with a ridge hand, knee him in the stomach and tossed him in to the side of the console, he hit his head and was knocked out. She then picked her phaser off the ground and continued to fire at the boarders, hitting a few of them.
While the ensign was distracted fighting one boarder, Von took the fight to the next, ignoring the request from the junior officer. A left hook took him by surprise, and Liarra followed up with a strong kick to the ribs before finishing him with her phaser. With some space to work with, she left off a few more shots, forcing the remaining troops in Ops to take cover. "With all due respect, Ensign, that's like asking a dog not to fetch." Von took a few more shots before taking cover behind another console. "Commander Drusus, any chance of getting those emergency transport inhibitors online?"
While continuing to fire at the boarders, Blair said to the Captain with a grin on her face " Well Ma'am I'm a Security Officer, I have to at least pretend like I care." Blair looked over at the Captain and yelled " GET DOWN". As she shot the phaser over the Captains head shooting the boarder. As Blair turned around she was stabbed by one of the boarders, it was deep as the turn deflected most of it, she back handed him in the face with her phaser still in her hand she shot him point blank. Blair grabbed her side and continued to fire her phaser.
Still using the rifle he'd taken from that first Sojourner, Drusus moved toward the security console. As he dashed toward it, one of the boarders tried to intercept him, but the Magna Roman used his size to his advantage and quickly shoved the hapless Tellarite into the bulkhead next to the door to the Captain's Office, knocking him out cold. He leapt over the console and knelt down behind it, grabbing the arm of one of the security officers firing his phaser over the top. "You, cover me while I get the inhibitors online."
Griffiths tired of duking it out with her hands and feet pulled out her standard issue combat knife and began slashing the enemy "I will not die this day" she said between lunges and breaths, aware that someone was trying to get the transporter inhibitors online, due to the situation she could not divert any focus to it.
It took longer than it should have and it didn't help that he twice had to interrupt his work to fend off more Sojourners. How many did they have? But finally he was able to reroute emergency power and activate the transport inhibitors. "Inhibitors online!" Drusus called over to Von before he grabbed his rifle and joined back into the task of clearing out the operations centre.
Von fired another few blasts from her phaser, taking down the of the Sojourner boarders to hit Ops. "Major, get that door sealed and locked down. I don't want any more surprises."
Liarra holstered her phaser and took a quick assessment of the damage. It didn't take her long to see that Abernathy was hurt. "Drusus, grab the emergency med kit and see what you can do for the ensign's wound."
The Captain came up beside Nvaiden as he evaluated their status. "Hull breaches on multiple decks. Security teams are reporting boarding parties throughout the station, Captain. There's not much we can do about that from here."
"Then we'll have to assume those teams can do their job, Lieutenant," Liarra replied bluntly. She'd be lying if she said that she wasn't concerned, but she knew that there was nothing that they could do. They just sealed themselves into Ops, so all they could do was continue the fight as best as they could from here. "What are the Sojourners doing now?"
"They appear to be concentrating their fire on one of the spacedock doors, Captain," the strategic operations officer replied.
An even more worried expression washed over Liarra's face. If they were able to breach the dock, just like Ensign Steiner had predicted, then all of those ships they were trying to protect were at risk. She couldn't bare the thought. "Just keep focusing on the Sojourner ships, Lieutenant. We have a lot of people counting on us."
