[ON]

An eerie silence befell the people aboard lifeboat 0193. Minutes ago, they had been tossed about in a hurricane of fire, enemies, and chaos. Now, the escape vehicle quietly settled into the mud of a shallow sea floor. Ens. Starr continued to staunch bleeding, spray over burns, and sooth with anesthetics. Everyone who was conscious felt consumed with curiosity over the progress of the battle and, ultimately, their fates. She turned up the audio volume on a small console so that all could hear open broadcast chatter.

As Monday knit a cracked skull bone, her patient asked, "I can't believe that a third rate fleet is thrashing our Stardock like this."

The patient next him offered, "It's politics. We couldn't deploy a system-wide defence because it would upset the Archans." He looked to the medic now tending them, "Does my insubordination offend you?"

Monday shrugged, numbing an overactive nerve cluster, "I don't know politics or military strategy. I should imagine though..." She snapped an antiviral hypo, "...If we come through this, then this Sojourner assault might have a silver lining. With the whole region possibly blowing up into a Gorn war, Fleet will be forced to rethink defences, here."

"Helluva duty post, out here. Sojourners, Gorn, lions and tigers and bears."

Monday manufactured a smile to convey concern, understanding the references. "My understanding is, this would be a choice assignment for your generic Klingon."

"Good. Let them be assigned here."

She again presented a reassuring smiled, touching an induction wand to the bridge of his nose. Very quickly, neural massage put him into a sleep. Needing to take a moment to rest, she took a seat at the pilot console and hooked an earphone over her ear. She cycled through channels to which she had access and tried to piece together what was happening in high orbit. At least the console board was green. There were no alert lights warning of hostile scanner beams.
