Mission: By Dawn's Early Light

[ON]

The loose alliance of mercenaries on Starbase had deployed in a best estimate location. If the enemy penetrated the base, they wanted to be able to intercept as the fight moved toward vital areas. Most of them didn't know Sojourner tactics or mentality, but they could easily asked themselves, "Where would I attack?"

It was easy to tell that the battle was not under control. Besides the generic, unhelpful intercom announcements, the mercs listened to tactical channels. "Shields are failing on our side. We were right."

The decks shuddered with the vibrations of impact. That brought a smile to Gavich, "Fun time."

Akiashiro's Forces kept scanning all frequencies, listening to the various chatter on the Fleet Tactical and the Starbase Marines. Even the few odd signals coming from various armed groups scattered about the big Starbase. They moved in groups of four minimum on the Akiashiro Deck. In other places about the station the groups were larger and they avoided Turbolifts when ever possible if they had to change levels. Station shuddered with unknown impacts signaling it was time to play.

Akiashiro kept his majority of the fighting force on Deck 1403 since he knew real good, knowing the definite channeling points or bottlenecks that would create a easy defensible places. Sections that were uninhabited at this time, air was removed from the section. Making it very uncomfortable for the invading forces if they breeched those areas. The shuttle bays and cargo warehousing in the business section were the most likely spots of intrusion.

Gavich and company waited patiently for the enemy to breach. From the sounds of combat chatter over the radio, it sounded inevitable. The veteran mercenary smiled, pointing to a holo-schematic, "Here. This is what they're after. He looked to the others, "Shall we?" The group hastened to the target area toting equipment hovercarts. Upon arrival, they unloaded ten gallon containers and placed them strategically. The decks shuddered, "Sounds like our guests are arriving."

His compatriot gestured, "Positions, everyone!"

More explosions... heavy gunfire... it became obvious that starbase defence was collapsing. Gavich readied his detonator box, "Fun time, everyone. Masks, down. Anti-adhesion fields, on." A minute later, a heavy corridor barrier ruptured. Through the smoke and fire poured a barrage of blaster fire. "Stand by... stand by..." Gavich pressed the button, setting of the charges which vaporized all of the paint containers. A thick haze of paint quickly covered the invaders' gas mask visors. With the enemy now effectively blinded, Gavich and friends charged forward and blazed away as each target became visible.

Akiashiros were having troubles of their own when a Sojourner breeched the airlocks on the big doors for unloading cargo directly into the cargo storage area. Working their way to the exits, blowing them if they offered resistance creating multiple access into the maze of offices and corridors, thinning out the Akiashiro's forces, creating multiple fronts of battles erupting in the business section of Deck 1403.

Akiashiro Force Commanders had to recall the Akiashiro's teams from the other decks to defend and repel the invaders, to at least contain them in the business section of the deck. It became a fight for the bottleneck to deny the Sojourners access to the Central lifts so that they could spread out amongst the stations lower decks creating mayhem and reaching their targeted destinations.

Akiashiro Commander ordered reserves troops into evac suits and replace those that were keeping the Sojourners contained. As he got into his along with his command element.

Sojourners were realized that they needed to get past the bottleneck, brought up the heavy weapons to blast their way into the center section to have that access to the turbo lifts. The No-man's Land and unfortunately it was on the Sojourners side of the bottleneck as anyone tried to get a shot off, received a hail of destructive energy blasted their way, slowly whittling away the hasty defensive barricade they threw up.

Sojourners began to cut into the walls to make an alternate path to the central turbolifts as they was falling behind schedule that their overall commander had set for them. He began receiving reports from the wounded that those that fought and defended this deck were putting on Evac suits...
