Mission: The Art of Survival
Location: Unknown M Class Planet
Timeline: Current

After a few hours of contouring the mountain and trying to find a place out of the elements the effort was rewarded by a cave, vines grew down almost covering the entrance and he only noticed it because of a small bird flew into it. This would provide adequate shelter and the vines would aid in keeping the cold breeze from sweeping in.

He placed Von on the floor a safe distance away telling her he was going to make sure it was safe, he didn't want to endanger her by stumbling into a nest of some sort. Passing the vines it appeared to be not so much a cave but empty space where a large boulder of stone had been and subsequent land slide of the earth and stone it was supporting, the mouth of the cave was perhaps ten feet high and the cave itself approximately forty feet deep. The smell was not overly pleasant but tolerable, it would have to do for the time being until they had rested. The cave provided a view of the crash site some kilometres off made visible by the smoke trails from the crafts many breaches. Satisfied it was safe he returned to the Captain.

It was an odd feeling for Liarra to be carried, but she was in no position to argue. It reminded her of her mother, carrying her off to bed after the end of a long evening. But then those were very different circumstances. She was no longer a little girl, but instead was fighting for her survival, lost on an unknown planet. Still, she couldn't help but feel like a child, needing to be babied and providing no real help to S'er'in'e as they made their way from the crash site. Even now, as she sat perched on a rock waiting for him to check out the cave, she felt useless. His chances for survival would be greatly increased if she told him to leave her be. Both her selfishness and his selflessness would guarantee that wouldn't happen. Von's thoughts continued to trail off as she focused on the surroundings, trying to take in some detail that might help them. Instead all she could see from her spot were rocks and trees, all of which were just as useless as she was. At least the trees could be used to make a fire.

"The cave is safe." He spoke as he very gently picked her up again, gentle for her and his sake. "The vines curtain the entrance providing concealment and a partial barrier to the wind. We can see the crash site from there also." His walk slow and gentle so to not jolt the Captain and her leg.

S'er'in'e's report caught Von off guard. She has still been deep in thought about the trees when he returned from the cave. "Good, good," she said, her voice trailing off a bit. Her leg was still sore, and even as careful as he was, every step caused her some level of pain. "This will be our best bet for a camp. That sun will be getting pretty low soon. If I was to guess, I'd say we crashed sometime in the late fall, early winter. Short days will make it harder to move, but at least it might make it harder for any pursuers to find us too."

Entering the cave once again his eyesight adjusted for the decreased light due to the vines. He found the spot he opted was best for Von to hide, a large stone outcropping which once behind would provide adequate cover if they were found so gently he placed her behind it. Already his senses told him the temperature was dropping. He placed the satchel with the gear and food he found next to her. "I should scout the area, get a lay of the land, see if there are any locations we can move to if we are compromised here." He took off his tunic and placed it around Von's legs to help keep her warm, she would need it more than he would.

Von's eyes took longer to adjust to the darkness than S'er'in'e's, but she was able to move herself into place behind the outcropping with her back against the wall. There was nothing that she could do about her right leg, and it stayed stretched out in front of her. Hopefully whoever was looking for them wouldn't see her foot. She gladly accepted her companion's tunic as she was feeling the chill in her legs. At least the cold lessened the pain in her leg. "Be careful, Colonel." Liarra handed the phaser up towards him. "Here, you might need this."

"You need it more than I." S'er'in'e responded, he finished removing his uniform. Sadly this meant once out of range he was unable to talk in an understandable language as there was no way to fix a badge to his fur. "If we are being hunted then I need to appear native to this world, a uniform is obvious. What I am can sometimes be an advantage." He folded up his trousers and delicately placed them behind Von to add comfort to her position, she could always move them or sit on them if she wanted later but for now he had a task. "If possible, is there anything of your possessions you need?"

S'er'in'e may have been covered in fur, but Liarra still looked away out of modesty. But it only lasted a moment. He made a valid point that his appearance could have it's advantages, and he apparently didn't mind. She did gladly welcome the extra padding behind her back. Liarra placed the phaser in her lap. "I don't think there is any of my possessions that I need that can't be replaced. Be careful out there, Colonel."
