Second Impressions

Posted on Fri Aug 12th, 2016 @ 10:40pm by Lieutenant Commander Le Austin & Lieutenant JG Liam Harrison

Mission: Brave New World
Location: Starbase 332
Timeline: TBD

After a day of taking things easy and getting settled on Starbase 332, Liam was due to report in for duty today and he might have to build some bridges with his new boss. He got an early start to his day, and with a full shower plus a good breakfast, he was ready to face whatever was ahead of him. He had a work station on one of the Starbase's Engineering decks, but he figured he'd report in to the Chief before he took on his duties.

Liam had his trusty toolkit in hand as he rode the turbolift to the Starbase's Operations Center. As the lift slowed and finally came to a stop, the doors opened to reveal the majestic nervous center of the Starbase. So this is where the magic happens, Liam thought as he made his way over to the operations stations. "Commander, Lieutenant Harrison reporting for duty," he announced as he gave the Chief a warm smile.

Austin narrowed his eyes at Liam and leveled a finger toward him, "I thought you were a teacher..." He said, sounding like he was carefully choosing his words. 'What the hell are you doing here!?' was not a preferred way to greet someone who was reporting for duty.

"No, sir," Liam said politely. "That would be Tyler, my fiance. He's the Flight Control Teacher. I've made my life as an Engineer. Computer Systems Specialist, to be exact," he explained to the Bajoran man.

"Oh sweet prophets, he's one of mine," Austin replied, dropping his head to the desk. After a moment, sat back up and held up a finger, "Okay, rule one: Crash landing into the hangar is never okay, no matter who the spot is reserved for, kay?" He said, seriously.

Liam couldn't help but smile at the Bajoran man as he nodded his head. "Yes, sir. But I tend to leave all the flying to Tyler. I'm the one who cleans up his messes, usually," he replied. He could tell that the Commander was just bursting with joy knowing that Liam would be his subordinate.

"I'm adding that to your regular jobs rotation: 'Clean up after Tyler'," Austin replied. "Has a nice ring to it," He said, grabbing a couple of PADDs and walking out from behind his station, "C'mon, let's get you started on some work, eh?"

Liam nodded at the Bajoran, smile still shining on his face. "Indeed it does," he replied. "I'd love to get started as soon as possible, sir. Where is my workstation located, exactly?" he inquired.

The Bajoran chuckled, "Ah... workstation. You're cute," He said, walking out of the Ops hub and down a cooridor to a nearby maintenance hatch where he wordlessly opened it, then turned and offered Liam the PADD.

"List of cross sections and inter connects where the primary computer conduits are frayed or slagged. There's about forty decks worth of conduits, and this is the only way to get to them," He said, grinning devilishly. "I was going to have to do this one myself, but... since you're here... Consider it payment in full for making me clean up Tyler's first mess, hmm?" He said, no hiding the mischievousness in his eyes.

Liam gritted his teeth looking at the open hatch. He then looked at the Commander, hoping he was joking. He stared directly into the man's eyes and saw the blackness in his soul. Clenching his jaw, he accepted the PADD and forced a smile on his face. "Yes, sir," he said slowly and firmly. "I'll get right to it..." He leaned down and crawled head first into the hatch.

"Have fun!" Austin said brightly as he smacked beside the hatch a couple times as Liam disappeared. The Bajoran turned on his heel and walked away, whistling a happy tune.
