Yet Another Chief

Posted on Thu Feb 23rd, 2017 @ 9:41am by Lieutenant Commander Craig Travis & Lieutenant Marc Madigan & Warrant Officer Marcus Lazlo & Lieutenant JG Warren Harper & Lieutenant JG Glek & Lieutenant JG Mena & Lieutenant Jani Engstrom

Mission: Shadows and Whispers
Location: Security conference room

Travis figured the best bet was to get some of the section chiefs together. He really needed to rally the troubles they had been through quite a few chiefs in a short amount of times. As he walked into the conference room he looked out on the Section Chiefs and other security staff he made his way to the head of the table and pulled up a display of the base. "Good morning, we will be getting to this promptly. For those that did not hear I am the new head of Base security. I have spoke with the command team of the base and have an idea on the Captain's concerns. I have some of my own as I am sure everyone has. I would like to start by going around the room. Voice up any concerns you may have." Travis paused for effect. "Who ever would like to start."

Madigan looked around the room to see if anyone was going to speak up. With no one looking particularly excited to talk, he shrugged his shoulders. "Most of what I see on the promenade decks are petty thefts and shoplifting. There tends to be enough foot traffic to dissuade most of the shady dealings. Other than that murder still leaving a sour taste in most people's mouths, I haven't heard too many complaints about the way we've been handling things in my neck of the woods."

"Got some press on my tail, but you've probably read all about that," Lazlo said, grumpily. "Been helping a former member of our ranks try to track down a kid over his head. He's gone civvie now, but something about this case stinks, and it's here on base. I'm looking into that, and keeping on-the-record notes, even though I'm working off hours. If anything comes up, I'll let you know," He offered.

Travis sat through as the rest of the other section chiefs gave their reports not much really to make note off just some general big city crime. Glek who overseas the varies docks said that they had tightened down with some of the custom equipment checks and had added patrols to watch over the ships in dock. Travis was pretty happy with the thoroughness of the reports given. It finally came time for him to give his vision.

Travis stood at the table. "Well as you know like many posts we have seen turnover. Some of you have had many different bosses and always having to adjust to there command style and prioritizes may be an issue. If anyone can not handle what I am asking of you please address it with me and we can see about a new fit for you." Travis paused. "We do a very good job of fighting general crime in the main Promenade and General Habitation areas of the base. It was what is seen and has the most people. What we have been lacking on is doing good police work in the lower levels of the ship. In many cases we put an out of site out of mind attitude. That changes now!" Going forward we will be reallocating some force to the lower levels so we can try and put a stop to this gang type violence that we have seen an uptick in. I do not want to forget that we police the whole station. I will now open it up to you what questions or concerns do you have?"

Madigan was not surprised by the new focus on the lower decks, but he did understand what it meant for him. Getting more manpower out here tended to be an uphill battle for whoever was in charge. Previous security chiefs put in requests, and Captain Von would send them along, but often they would be ignored. Concerns over the growing Gorn threat tended to mean that more ships and officers were dispatched to the Klingon border, and that left less for the installations and outposts. A new focus and reallocation of resources most likely meant that he was going to lose some of his officers. It would be a daunting task, but not an impossible one. Marc's mind was already putting together some schemes to make it look like he had more officers than he did in an effort to make sure that any criminal activity didn't move from another section of the station to his. "No questions from me, sir. We have a pretty good handle on the Promenade decks, but keeping them that way with fewer officers will have its challenges. But we'll find a way to make do."

"I think it's about time we spent more resources on other areas of the station," Lieutenant Mena added. "The areas of the station visited most frequently by tourists has always received a disproportionate amount of officers."

Travis acknowledged Mena's remarks. "Alright then if no one has any questions, I look forward to working with each of you in the coming days to effect real chance to the station. Dismissed." With that everyone got up and some came up to shake Travis's hand on his promotion and others chatted as everyone went their separate ways. Travis just sat back and realized what a big job he had gotten involved in.
