- Starbase 332 Passenger Lounge/Turbo lift -

A Week later the Klingon Bird of Prey decloaks and quickly sends a note that they were transporting a Starfleet Officer from earth and were allowed to dock, the moment Alex had gathered her carry on bags and had her heavier luggage transported to the Cargo area where it could be scanned she bid the ships Captain Qua'Pla and the ship undocked and left the area.

Picking up her carry bags she heads deeper into the station, with 332 being a Spacedock class, it was similar to Earth spacedock so she had a rough idea on where to go, but as she had to head to see her new boss she used the directory terminal in arrivals and located it, sighing heavily she made her way to Major Jacobs office.

While 332 was a Spacedock class it's layout was very different when one got past the passenger lounge and cargo bay area, in her left hand she had a holdall with some immediate clothing and toiletries and in the longer bag on her right shoulder she had all her blades and both versions of her desert eagles even her TR-116 rifle, but she knew that the chance of using that weapon would be slim to none and thus made a mental note to register all her weapons with the armoury and to leave her TR rifle in the main armoury.

As she entered the turbo lift she was running things through her mind and wishing she never had her hair cut her pixie-Esq like hairdo was one of those spur of the moment choices, she fancied it and got the haircut, her Sister had said that she would eventually regret it and even now Alex did not like admitting that Karyn was correct. So she sucked it up and the moment the doors closed.

"Marine level," she said, it was a general location on any starbase, one that the computer would accept and she did not know what it was called by the locals "Hmm, I guess I am a local now," she said to herself as the doors opened up on the Marine Level. She looked at the sign that greeted those exiting the lift, she shrugged and asked a passing marine where the MCOs office was and thanked the Marine when he gave her directions.

She stood outside of the office and straightened up her uniform and the doors opened into a small waiting area, here she placed her bags down and pulled out her Padd with her new assignment on and pressed the buzzer on the MCOs door at the Aide's nod.

- Marine Commanding Officers Office -

It was rare for Parker to be in the actual office that was afforded to him by the position he held. Despite that though it was hard for the Battalion commander to escape the mountains of paperwork that accompanied the position no matter the number of attempts he made to dodge it. To make it at least somewhat bearable to be in the office Parker had done some small renovations upon arrival including altering one of the walls into a large holo-display that generally, as it did now, showed the view of the upper section of the spacedock looking out towards the planet. The planetscape behind him, Parker stared at the computer screen in front of him trying to understand the mess that was the logistical supply chain afforded to the 14th Battalion from the Division, a Division that was almost half a sector away.

When the door buzzed Parker almost jumped at the chance to take his focus away from a headache inducing supply requisitions. "Come in," Parker said as he pushed his chair back from the computer and towards the centre of his desk.

Alex opened the door and entered, and saluted, even though both were the same rank, she remembered what her father had said "If you ever find yourself in a situation where your new Commander is the same rank you are, it is politic to show respect with a salute for want of a better idea, after all your new Commander if he or she is the same rank as you and they are a Department Head or in the case of a marine MCO then they will have seniority in one aspect, remember this and things will go more smoothly" Alex always knew her father retired Colonel Samuel Somers had a point and until recently had yet to test his theory out... Until now.

"Major Alexandria Lynne Somers New Omega Squad Commander reporting in Major" Alex announced, holding the salute till it was returned.

"At ease Somers," Parker said as he gave a quick salute back. Standing Parker tugged at the bottom of his jacket pulling it tight as he came around his desk and extended his hand, "I believe your information is a bit wrong Major. Omega isn't a squad its a Company within the battalion."

She was genuinely surprised "well you have been busy Major, your predecessor Major Griffiths told me she had created it as a Squad, but never had much chance to develop the squad. When I see her next I will mention how you have improved on her idea" then it really hit her on what Parker said. "What exactly do you mean Major when you say Omega isn't a squad it's a company within the battalion! How many men have you added to this squad to make it Company level?" she asked surprised "I only ask as the majority of my commissioned life I have led two squads to total at once, I was MCO for a short time on the Gaia Colony, then things went south there and we had to pull out and this is why I am here, less hassle and grey hairs to earn" Somers added.

"Yes well, no offence to Major Griffiths but this is a Battalion with four companies, not three and a squad," Parker replied curtly as he digested the statement of the redheaded marine across from him. "I'm aware of the fact that you've not had much experience operating with larger units. To help you get adapted to your new level I've put you in some exercises with Easy Company in the coming weeks once you've settled in and gotten to know your command staff. I'll also be open and available for questions if you have any."

Looking at him quizzically "Major, really!! I did say that she did not have time to build it up when I mentioned she had only created a Squad, but I neglected to say that the 14th Btn was in full, she just never developed the ideas she had before she had to leave. Personally, I think she was a bit daunted by the task as the 14th Btn is larger than she had commanded. Being MCO on a Starship is nothing like MCO on a planet or Starbase, this I know all too well."

Somers paused, then remembered something

"Oh, Major is there an Armoury that I can put my TR-116 Rifle in, an Armoury where only you me, the XO and FO have access too? It was a gift from my father, he is a retired Colonel and now one of the Ambassadors to the Klingon's. No one else can fire it, the weapon is keyed to my Biosignature and DNA pattern. But I read up on this place and the need for such a weapon will be slim to none, so I thought I would register it with the Master At Arms and place it in a secure area." *pause* "So apart from the Squad name, what else cand you tell me about my Company?" Somers asked.

Parker kept a straight face as he stared at the woman with a blank look. "Intentions and ideas are fine Major. Ideas with no solid results past a small unit are of no use to me." Parker pulled a padd of the desk behind him as he handed it to the marine opposite him. "You have the basic staffing from Griffiths original attempt to help establish the company. It's comprised mainly of assets from the rest of the division that is being transferred here. You'll be a recon company and I'll expect training reports on the company's effectiveness for the first three months every week after that the standard biweekly report will suffice."

"As for your weapon the secure lock up within the marine armoury should suffice." The senior Marine said with a nod, "With your recon company you will have more training time allotted on the holodecks and planets use because I expect more. I don't expect MARSOC level of expertise but I will expect higher than standard infantry."

Looking dubious, this posting would definitely be different from ship based Marine duties and training, Alex also wondered why Naomi did not do much with the Marines here, she supposed that she would never find out. "Yay more training time!" she said with some faux levity "Well I do need to get to know my company, so that is not logical," Somers said and looked at Jacobs.

"So apart from my reporting to you that I have come aboard I need to know some more things, when does my company report for training and where? Then after that, I have to report to the Captain, part to notify the Captain I am here and partly for personal reasons" Somers said and waited for Jacobs to answer her two questions about the training.

"Your company is already here Major." Parker said waving a hand as he turned, "You were the last piece to be assigned actually somewhat odd considering but command is command and to question their logic would only cause headaches." The Marine said with a slight chuckle, "As for training you will have to check with the Battalion senior NCO. He'll have the full roster and rotation for your training areas and routines set out. As to the Captain that's your business Major, you'll have to contact her aide to get an appointment."

Nodding "Thank you, Major, will do that" Somers said then tilted her head to the left slightly "Major what is your stance on Klingon Bloodwine, you like it or hate it? And who is the Captain's Aide?" Somers asked.

"Bloodwine is an uhh.... acquired taste," Parker replied an eyebrow arching wondering exactly where that might be going. "Some enjoy it some do not, I do not. As for the Captains Aide, some Andorian Warrant Officer I believe I am unsure as to her name."

Nodding "what beverage are you most fond of Major?" Somers asked "thanks for the information too" she added as she slightly tilted her head to the right and raising an eyebrow "I assure you there is no double meaning in my questions Major, I am just simply asking" she clarified on her question on Jacobs favourite drink.

"Scotch," Parker said eyeing the red headed woman carefully. It wasn't often one asked what someone's favourite drink was and when they did it generally lead to 'gifts'. Only time would tell though. "Anything else I can answer for you major?" Parker asked as he glanced downwards at his watch, "I have a training debriefing I planned on sitting in on in 15 minutes."

Realising that she had taken up enough of his time Somers nodded "understood Major" she said with a mysterious smile "I will put my TR-116 into the armoury and then report to Captain Von after that, so if there is nothing further Major I will be going!" Somers said.

"Dismissed." Parker replied waving a hand towards the door, "Just make sure your weapons are secured and all should be good."

With a polite nod, Alex left the MCO's office and headed straight for the armoury.
