Mission:
A Day in the Life
Location: Holodeck 1
Timeline: BACKPOST

Having booked herself a three-hour session in the Starbases main holodeck, Alex now entered the thing her unnaturally red hair tied up in a high ponytail and walked over to the wall panel and set up the battlefield, and everything else. Behind her was a fortified position which the defenders could fire from in the initial stages. in front of her was a long table full of weapons, and blades. All these were a general spec for the holo-program, her personalized pack had a little something extra, that she never used and wondered why it was there. Otherwise, it was the same as the standard dispenser backpacks. She wore an old-fashioned British army combat outfit minus the jacket, her trouser pockets each had four mags for her P90 in with four more on her combat harness left and right straps.
She activated the manual release and an eighteen mag dispenser popped out, she began to put on the dispenser fully loaded modified extended Desert Eagle mags, each round was armour piercing. When this was done she closed the pack back up and put on a dual set of pistol holsters and they rode low on her thighs. Then she put twin wakizashi blades into the holding straps on her pack, then she proceeded to put it on. On her belt there were four pistol pouch mags, she filled these that was on her left and right hips. Her combat harness that was part of her pack also has ammo pouches on them, but these were for primary weapon magazines, she filled these up too, all this stuff was holographic, but she physically had most of this stuff locked safely up in her quarters. She picked up a P90 and loaded it.
She placed the weapon down without cocking it and picked up a Desert Eagle pistol, loaded it, cocked it and put it in her right holster, she picked up another pistol checked it and then a mag, she was just about to insert the magazine into the pistol handle and stopped mid-motion as she looked up to see a Fleet Lieutenant enter.
"Hello, Lieutenant, who might you be and why you in holodeck 1?" Somers asked pushing in the mag and cocking the weapon as the Lieutenant looked at her, with a twirl/flourish she spun the pistol around like the mavericks of the old west and dropped the pistol into the left holster while she waited for the Lieutenant to respond.
"Good day Major, I'm Lieutenant John Demarck the new Assitant Medical Officer." the man said, looking around the set. 'I'm not in Kansas anymore' the man thought, setting forward to shake the major's hand. "I'm sorry for disturbing you, I thought I had reserved this holodeck for some Batleth training."
Taking the offered hand "It seems you might have gotten the time mixed up, no matter, you are here, and would you like to partake in my wee combat scenario?" Somers said then it hit her "you like a Bath'leth! Be still my beating heart, a man after my own heart" she said with a smile "Have you used combustible projectile weapons before Lieutenant?" she asked.
"Yes, I do like the Bath'leth. My brother Katagh and I compete in the Bath'leth tournament on Forcas III every year. For a couple of doctors we know how to do cause some damage" John replied jokingly. Ever since Katagh started to train John with a Bath'leth they decided to enter the tournament together. Julie never liked it, knowing the dangers. Worriers who wielded the sword from childhood die during that competition. And, in her own words, 'these two idiots' think it a good idea to enter. If it were up to both John and Katagh they would start to train Judith as soon as possible, but Julie doesn't want to hear about it.
John looked around the setting. Being an amateur historian he recognised the weaponry but couldn't place them in the right era. His historical studies focused on the cultural and social situations mostly. Questions like "what was the reason Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated" and "Why did Adolf Hitler do what he did" were questions he was more interested in that "what weapons did they use?" Which doesn't mean that he knows nothing about it? But having used one? "No, I haven't. I take it that you just point and shoot?"
Seeing his slight confusion "All these weapons are from mid 20th and early 21st Century Earth, there are MP5s, M16 etc, plus an assortment of sidearms. I would suggest you choose some, one of the combat harnesses and extra magazines as we will be starting off with weapons and ending in blades and general melee. There is even a Kahless Bat'Leth on this table, but trust me this is combat in its most ugly form, also I have lowered the safeties to where you can suffer a bad injury, but you cannot die in this holoprogram, I usually do this one when I need to let off steam, it also trains you to be agile and such when you get the melee stage, now what is it you would like to know about this simulation, I advised you ask so you know going in" Somers said as she let the Lieutenant have a look at the weapons.
John took a moment to go through the weapons. Being a physician one would think that all he sees is carnage, blown off limbs and death when looking at this ancient weaponry. But John had been wielding a Bath'leth for years now. He had put that kind of thoughts aside years ago. Many doctors can't put those considerations aside but having Katagh as a brother, who is both a worrier and a doctor, you learn to see things differently. When in combat in either a tournament of a training program John isn't a doctor. He is a worrier on the battlefield of honour. His only goal, to kill the enemy or at least injure them severely. Finally, he picked up an M16, combat harness and some extra magazines. He then started to look through the blades.
John paused a moment when setting eyes on the Bath'leth of Kahless. Katagh had told him many stories about the power this sword contains. About the honour and courage, the user would feel. About the battles against Molor and Fek'irhi. The stories about how the Sword of Kahless makes the worrier invincible. It was those stories that spiked John's interest in the Bath'leth. Katagh had been a good teacher. Once during training Katagh had sliced Johns upper torso open with his Mekleth. Thinking John would want to call a quits he offered his hand. But instead of quitting John took Kataghs hand, threw him over his head, jumped up and sliced Kataghs leg so deep that it took 18 hours of non-stop surgery for John to properly reattach the limb. Katagh had never been more proud. With a slight hesitation, John picked up the Sword of Kahless and stood there for a moment in absolute awe. Even though this was a holodeck recreation of the sword John felt like Kahless would guide him.
"Tell me about this simulation. What is the setting, what is the goal?"John asked in his soft voice.
As the pair walked over to the centre where they would start, Alex explained "the original idea and what the setting is this; you have basic personal weapons like we have with as many spare ammo clips you can carry, a sidearm and melee weapon of your choice like we are doing, the setting is a random battlefield, with dry, windy conditions on a Class M planet. The enemy is holograms of Klingon, Jem'hadar, Cardassian, Romulan, Breen most of the Alpha, Beta and Gamma Quadrant races even the Borg *smiling* these ones cannot assimilate. I have also recently added in soldiers from Earths WW2 Axis powers, they will charge us in waves, the first ten wave are easy, after that they get considerably harder, I have reach level 30 solo and level 35 with my partner. There are two-hundred levels to this program, not even I can beat anything past 35 and I have tried" she paused.
"Remember to conserve your shots, one shot kills if you can leave your main weapon on Semi-automatic of a 3 burst rotation, you will need the ammo, when you run out of main ammo, dump your weapon and switch to sidearms, when they have expended their ammo, then use blades" Somers paused, "This combo backpack is a replica of the real one I have in my quarters as is the blades and pistols. This pack as a pistol magazine dispenser" she said and showed him what she meant as she activated the dispenser and the spare clips attached to a dispenser bar dropped down "when my mags are empty I eject the empty ones and load the new ones in" she showed the motion with her right Desert Eagle "Empty mag is ejected" she said and moved her hand back with the handle aimed at the new mag. "I load the gun then as I am bringing it forward I bring the breach and cocking mechanism forward and tada a new mag in my pistol the dispenser then retracts automatically and I repeat as needed" she finished. "It has an alarm to let me know when I have used my last mag" she replaced the pistol into her holster with a flourish.
"Two main things to remember, the hostiles will not surrender or show mercy and will try to kill you, the other is the safeties have been lowered enough so if not careful you will get injured. The aim is to simulate an uncontrolled battlefield where anything can happen and allow ones senses and actions to sharpen, after all it is better to suffer an injury with this program than it is being dead, as you never get over that" Somers said with grim humour and waited to see if the Lieutenant had any questions.
"Sounds like fun" he said. John grabs his M16 and inserted one of his ammo mags. Taking a slow, good look over the battlefield he was impressed. The setting was a beautiful countryside with green pastures, a few houses and a hill in the near distance. 'A perfect place for a romantic getaway, were it not for the carnage happening here in just a few minutes' he thought. Somers and John were standing in the center. Just a few meters from them were the remnants of an old house, the perfect cover. It protected you from all sides while still giving one a great line of sight in all directions. The main problem was that being in the countryside there wasn't a clear attack route for the enemies. They could and would be coming from all sides. Had it been a city setting there would be clearly defined streets with houses on all sides forcing the enemy through those. But 'one has to work with what one has' he thought, remembering what his mother always says. "I think we should just do it and see where it leads" he remarked, nodding at Somers.
She simply smiles "Computer begin at Level One" Somers said suddenly there was a horde of assorted hostiles on the hill, the Klingon Simulations were shouting and throwing barbs of some form of words, then they all charged as one unit.
"SHOW TIME!" Somers said and lock & loaded her weapon and in steady stattico burst began firing at the oncoming horde, both of them in cover took down the first three front ranks "Reloading" Somers shouted and quickly reloaded and began firing cutting down some more, this went on for a sometime Somers reloaded when she needed to so when the charging enemy pulled back, she was a little startled, she had forgotten that she had added this little alteration in. A holographic clock appeared above them showing them they had 90 minutes to recover.
"Okay I am down to a dozen mags on my main weapon, what of your load-out?" Somers asked DeMarck.
DeMarck seemed too intent on staying alive to respond, but as you would expect the challenges got harder as they progressed up the levels. Alex noted that they were reaching level thirty as she recognised the signs of her own program, the pair were now down to their melee weapons and were holding up and just like when she was with her Fiancée Paul Sharpe they reached level 31 and both by this time were tiring out and as they were pushed down to the ground and a Jem'Hadar raised their blades over them the program ended and they were both laying on a black and yellow grid panting, she looked over at DeMarck the poor guy was exhausted.
"Get cleaned up and some rest Lieutenant, you will be aching in the morning" Alex said standing in agony and straightening her back and wincing in pain "I am getting too old for this" she quipped "good exercise Lieutenant, I found it ouch *winces in agony* exhilarating I will see you on the flip-side" she added knowing that the Lieutenant was too tired to respond.
With that she decided to help DeMarck out of the holodeck and to his quarters, it took her some time but after half hour trek back to his quarters she made for her own quarters where she could freshen up and relax.
