Tempest, Part 2

Posted on Mon Oct 22nd, 2018 @ 10:51pm by Lieutenant Yzhara & Lieutenant Commander Tyler Vorran & Cadet Senior Grade Errowyn St. Cloud

Mission: Weathering the Storm
Location: Bridge, USS Wainwright

Felicity turned from where she'd been sitting quietly in the XO's seat on the bridge. Seeing Lieutenant Commander Vorran, she stood and walked over, handing over a PADD to him. "The latest report of the ships readiness sir. We've got plenty of supplies, and all crew who should be here are here." She hoped that she'd remembered everything she'd been asked to do.

Vorran looked over the PADD and everything appeared to be in order. Luckily the Wainwright got plenty of attention from the cadets learning to maintain starship systems.
"Very good, Cadet" Vorran replied handing the padd back to Kaz.

Cadet Johanson moved quietly through the barely used corridors of the ship under the pretense of inspecting various areas of the ship for the upcoming storm. He was on a mission to prove his worthiness to be part of the Cleansing. He paused near a hatch and looked both ways, before he kneeled and tapped in the by-pass code to open the hatch without triggering an alarm on various panels through out the ship. He climbed down and closed the hatch after him, leaving it unlocked for his departure. He moved through the silent torpedo magazine. He looked in awe at the massive torpedoes laying in their racks waiting to be used.

Coming up on the loading mechanism control panel, Johanson paused, once again looking around him for stray crew. Seeing none. He got to work programming in a program that would by-pass the fail safes and bridge tactical control to load and fire a torpedo at the appointed time. He then accessed the torpedo that was ready to be loaded and programed it to fly on a course to hit another garrison ship.

Cadet at Tactical was just finishing up high level diagnostic on the weapons system when a flashing light caught his attention and muttered audibly, "what the... This ain't right." His hand flew across the console to bring up the glitched system. "Weapons powering up. What a lousy time for a test.."

Yzhara was closest to the cadet, and moved closer to confirm what she thought she had just heard. "Say that again, Cadet? I thought I heard you say that we were powering up weapons."

Cadet turned to Yzhara, not looking to pleased, but held his tongue of a biting remark. Took a deep calming breath and then spoke. "Torpedo System went active to Stand-by mode during my high level diagnostics, Sir!" Stepping aside to show the tactical board. Pointing out the glitched system. "Should I have Engineering send down a crew?"

The aenar looked over at Vorran. "Sir, the torpedo system just went active to stand-by. Did you order any drills?"

"Not that I'm aware of. Last thing we need are torpedoes active during the storm." Vorran replied

That answer didn't sit well with Yzhara. "Cadet, see if you can power the weapons down from here. Engineering has a lot to worry about to get us powered down for the storm."

"I've tried everything with the exception of going full active mode and firing the torpedoes or the Captain uses his override code." Cadet glanced at Yzhara. Almost afraid to touch the console before him.

Yzhara was not the ranking officer, but as an instructor, she still had special clearance. She reached for the console and entered her command codes. But she was somehow locked out of the weapon's system. She turned to Vorran. "Sir, my command codes aren't working."

Vorran shrugged. "I'll give it a shot but you have full clearance." Vorran entered his command codes only to have them rejected. "I'm no computer expert but it looks like access to the weapons system has been locked out from the bridge." Vorran said as he tried once again to enter his command codes.

The Cadet at Tactical was looking worried as he felt the weight of eyes from his fellow cadets on him and the two Instructors at his station. "Try the previous Captain codes? First Officers also?"

Yzhara shook her head. "Officers aren't usually given the command codes of higher ranking officers, cadet." She'd be lying if she said she wasn't concerned, but for the sake of the cadets she tried to keep her cool. "Suggestions, Commander? Maybe we should have someone check it out."

"I'll go!" Tactical Cadet spoke up as he motioned for his replacement to take over Tactical Station. "There may be a manual override to shut the launcher system down. Sirs." He just wanted to be out of the limelight, yet doing something productive.

Yzhara looked over at Vorran before nodding. "Alright, I'll go with you, Cadet. It wouldn't hurt to get a couple of pairs of eyes on this. I'm sure Commander Vorran can handle things here without me."

The Cadet moved with assurance and confidence that they could come up with a simple solution. He had snagged a tactical tricorder and the data pad that contained the information on every aspects of ship weaponry that the ship carried. "Last resort, we could let it launch and destruct it before it could hit anything." Entering the turbolift. "It still would cause damage, but not to the scale of an impact would."

Yzhara gave the cadet a concerned look. While he had a point, it was still a dangerous prospect. "I doubt Captain Von would appreciate having a torpedo detonate in her spacedock, but I suppose it is preferable to exploding inside the ship."

"Yeah. A Lot of ships would get rocked with concussive force, but not with the brutal impact explosion at extreme close range. Which is where the crippling damage comes from." Cadet explained his reasoning and showing off his knowledge a bit on torpedoes destructive force.

"Regardless, let's try to find a way to take care of the problem without causing collateral damage." Yzhara entered her command codes into the bridge weapons locker and pulled our a hand phaser. She checked the power level and confirmed that it was set to stun. "After you, Cadet."
