Tempest, Part 3
Posted on Wed Dec 12th, 2018 @ 11:48pm by Lieutenant Yzhara & Lieutenant Commander Tyler Vorran & Cadet Senior Grade Errowyn St. Cloud
Mission:
Weathering the Storm
Location: USS Wainwright
The cadet took off through the ship, down into the bowels of the ship to the torpedo launching systems were housed. Using standard accessing codes which registered with Security that crew was entering the torpedo weapon systems room and storage. Walking between the racks of Torpedoes was daunting to the Cadet to approach the secondary console for Automated launching system that was controlled by Tactical on the bridge.
In the dim lighting of weapon storage and launching. Torpedoes gleamed with reflected light. The cadet brought up on the Data Pad to begin the total shutdown of the system. The Steps and Procedures.
Lieutenant Yzhara stepped aside while the cadet checked on the torpedo system. Meanwhile, she took a look, or at least what constituted as a look for her, around the room. Normally the torpedo launcher room was manned, but for some reason the room was quiet, almost eerily so. It left Yzhara with a bad taste in her mouth. "How's it looking, Cadet?
"Inna few more minutes, we'll know for sure." The Cadet had propped the PADD where he could read it as he took his time in following the steps to shutdown the Torpedo system completely, manually. Which would normally take seconds if the computer was doing it. "Need Your access code, Commander." The Cadet stepped off to the side to allow Yzhara access to the keyboard. "Needs to be inputted via the keyboard."
Yzhara moved to the console and put in her command codes. It was a perk of working on a training ship that her codes were good enough to get her into any system. She didn't enjoy that kind of authority when she was on the Montreal. "Alright, you have access, Cadet. Let's get those torpedo tubes cleared, and hopefully not by launching them."
Cadet stepped back up the console. He resumed the slow tedious process of unarming the torpedo and getting the tube unloaded. He followed each step religiously and literally did the step-by-step by-the-book procedure.
Machinery began to whirr and hiss. Doors to the tube slid open and the gleaming torpedo slowly came out from the tube, inert. Just a bunch materials, propellent and explosive matter, fully exposed on the loading tray.
Cadet looked up at Yzhara. "You want to lock out the system from here, Commander?" Relief and a small smile of success graced his face as he wiped the sweat off his face with his hand. He once again stepped back as the doors to the tube shut automatically with a soft snap in the ensuing silence.
Yzhara stepped back to the console and input her codes again, locking out the weapon system and locking the torpedo tubes. Satisfied with her work, she tapped her commbadge. "Yzhara to Vorran. We've disarmed the torpedo and I've locked out the weapons."
"Good work. Post a guard as well to be sure." Vorran replied. It was disquieting how someone on the crew could have been responsible.
With the chaos of the storm preparations it would be easy to gain access to a restricted area on the ship or station.
"Sir, I recommend locking down the ship as well." Yzhara added. "If this was a malfunction, then our investigation should reveal that. If someone did this intentionally, we may be able to keep them from leaving before we can investigate. Locking down transporters and disconnecting the egress tunnels should be enough." At least she hoped that it would be enough. They already had enough to worry about to get the ship secured for the storm. Dealing with a potential saboteur was another thing entirely.
