Wounded

Mission: The Invasion of Thane
Location: Sickbay - USS Vesta
Timeline: After The Destruction of the Metis

[ON]

Dr. Daniels moved from patient to patient. Sickbay was overloaded with wounded and survivors from the Metis. "Nurse, prepare Crewmen Quell and T'Nar for surgery, and I need blood donations. Vulcan, Bolian, and Human." She mentioned.

Allie winced as the Vesta nurse treated her burns. The nurse was obviously in a hurry, and didn't spend very long on the cadet, quicktly finishing and moving on to the next patient. She was lucky since that plasma explosion that took out the warp core only burned her. But she saw plenty of young officers and crew that weren't so lucky, and were caught up in the flames and shrapnel. It was a horrific sight, and one that they don't do well enough to prepare you for in the Academy.

Lieutenant Commander Ballard watched the throng of activity as he stood in the doorway of sickbay. He had been sent down by Lieutenant Commander Ratchford to assess the triage situation. He had no idea what he was looking at. Doctor Sheppard and a woman who he assumed was the Chief Medical Officer from the Metis were flitting like hummingbirds between mutilated patients. The smell of cooked flesh was beginning to overpower the sickbay's usual odour of disinfectant.

If he hadn't seen worse, it would have been enough to make him wretch. There was nothing he could do, he was needed on the bridge.

Valerie slipped in behind her intelligence officer and patted him on the shoulder before looking into the flurry of activity. As an engineer, she didn't spend much time around triage. But she had seen her share of plasma burns, and the scene in front of her did not hold back. The Vesta's captain was looking for Commander Prax, but she knew better than to distract one of the nurses by asking. She chose instead to look around, trying her best to stay out of the way.

The Trill, for her part, was fighting with a nurse who was trying to keep her lying down on the biobed, whilst she her self insisted that she needed to get up and see to the needs of her crew. It had come as a shock at first when she had closed her eyes, and the Metis' countdown to destruction had ticked to zero, only to suddenly find herself and her crew - those still alive, that is - on another Starfleet ship. She hadn't bothered finding out which yet.

Now that she had come to understand her surroundings and the fact that they had been saved a death at the hands of the Nova-class ship's warp core, she was insistent that the ship's medical staff treat the other members of the former vessel's crew before seeing to her own wounds, no matter how bad she looked - or felt.

Melissa finally had managed to get the more critical patients stabilized when she turned her attention to Commander Prax. "Commander Prax, don't make me relieve you of duty! Let the nurse do her job!" She said in a sharp voice. She moved to Prax's side. "I'm doing what I can for them Nilani. Settle down and we'll see to those wounds." She said in a lower voice.

"Melissa, I need to get to the bridge," Nilani pleased, though she allowed the doctor to keep her prone on the bio bed. "I can't afford to stay down here when we might still be in danger, and I can't take your time away from the others." It was readily apparent that the ship's sickbay was overloaded with the entire surviving crew of the Metis; though looking around, Nilani had surmised that either they had suffered more losses than she had feared, that the ship had a secondary sickbay, or that the ship's medical staff had converted a cargo bay to act as a triage centre rather than over flow the sickbay.

Sean looked around and winced when the nurse started treating his head injury. It was the first time it felt painful. The last thing he remembered he was laughing about something stupid and the next he was beamed to his current surroundings. He saw Exeter being helped and smiled as the young man pinched his nurse and getting a slap in the face.

He stood up and thanked the nurse who quickly went to the next wounded crewmember. Sean looked around hoping to see a familiar face.

A young crewman three beds away let out a blood-curdling wail as the incision passed through the charred skin around what was once his lower leg. The sickbay fell silent but for the occasional moan of an injured colleague. The chatter of the surgeons working on the Arc was all that could be heard as the the crewman did his best not to slip into unconsciousness.
