The Three Marines wandered through the myriad of hallways until finally reaching the CMO conference room. He spotted Lieutenant Commander Daniels and stepped into the rather large office, his Sergeant Major and chief corpsman in tow.

"Doctor Daniels I presume."

Melissa looked up. "Good Morning Sergeant Major. What can I do for you?"

Major Gifford stepped forward, "Yes I was informed of a meeting here today between the Marine Medical Staff and the Chief Medical officer, I thought I would take the opportunity to meet you."

Melissa stood, "Ah yes, Major Gifford. I have been needing to see to your Medical Staff." She presented a hand.

Gifford returned the shake. "Please allow me to introduce Sergeant Major Dunmore and Captain Rebbecca Ellis our Battalion Medical officer on loan from the regimental staff. I hoping to get the Captain to stay with us."

She moved to sit down. "The first thing I'd like to do is to brief your medics on the flora and fauna in our sector. I've been doing some research lately on the xenobiology of this sector's wildlife. Thankfully, since we're a starbase, I get access to all of the samples that our research vessels encounter." She spoke again. "I've encountered quite a few things that would taste good with a bit of cilantro, and other things that would essentially be the last thing one would eat." She said with a smirk.

The Marines moved to the table. Gifford Continued, "It sounds like information we definitely need to know about Doctor."

Melissa nodded, "I'll give your medics full access to my research staff. I have quite a bit of resources available here. I'll even throw in my recipes for the edible stuff." She noted with a smile. "There is something I'm concerned about." She noted. "What usually happens when you get enough Fleet Personnel and Marine Personnel in a bar?" The CMO said with a grin. Hoping the Major caught what she was referring to.

The Major smiled. "Usually a boost in population I would think first. If that wasn't possible I think it moves straight into full blown assault."

Gunny Dunmore grunted his agreement to the last part of his CO's statement.

"And the casualties usually end up in my Medical Center. Each hyped up on adrenaline and hitting on my nurses." Said Melissa. "Then my nurses end up having to find out where it hurts the worst before the CO comes down and asks everyone there how the fight began. Catch my meaning Major?"

"Absolutely Doctor, I'm sure as the battalion get established we shall be capable of handling our own routine needs. But we may need your assistance getting there."

Melissa spoke again, "One more thing Major. And it is important since we'll be working together." She spoke again. "It is something of a personal matter, but one you and the sergeant must know."

"Rest assured Doctor, we shall respect your confidence."

She spoke, "I cannot kill." She noted. "Not even in self-defense."

Major Gifford nodded. "We understand completely. The Gunny and I have lost many. To many.

Melissa spoke again, "No one comes back from war unchanged Major, and I certainly was not the same after the last battle. I cannot tell you everything, but I can tell you that many who came home from that war became doctors."

"I hope you see our mission here in this sector is protect life. We shall need your help to get that done. I do not look forward to losing anymore of my marines out here."

Melissa spoke, "Make no mistake Major, I can defend myself non-lethally. For now, accept that I have had to move on from a very painful past, but I have found a purpose worthy of a Starfleet Officer."

Gifford and the Sergeant nodded. "Well I have Forty one corpsmen and Four surgeons that will be available in the next week or two for training. Whats your schedule look like.?"

Melissa spoke, "Busy, but I think I can fit your surgeons in at fifteen-hundred tomorrow."

"Excellent I'll be sure to have them here on time."

"It was a pleasure meeting you Doctor."
