Chest Wounds

Mission: The Mystery Men of Mira
::On::
Never being a victim of a wound, or the trauma of getting the holy stars blown out of him he embraced shock and wanted for someone to tell him there was nothing more that can be done..He saw Marines over him. There was yelling in the distance. Mass confusion ruled.
Melissa appeared on the scene, with the Marines around her. "What's going on?"
"During the apprehension of a Known Smuggler the Major was trying to get him to drop his weapon. The guy shot him right off.."
She knelt down and began to scan Gifford. "This isn't a phaser or a disruptor wound. It's a gunshot." She noted she got her tools out
The Marine corporal held up the weapon. "I couldn't tell you what this is but it sure knocked the Major flat."
"Gunshot is way different from phaser or disruptor wounds. I need to seal his collateral artery otherwise he'll bleed to death on the inside." Melissa noted as she worked. She then spoke to a Marine. "You, get me a round from that gun."
"Yes Ma'am" The Marine fumbled with the weapon until a Sergeant came and snatched it from him, spun the cylinder and ejected several large shells. He handed one to the Doctor. "I hate these things"
Melissa picked up the round. "Wonderful, Hollow points." She went back to work. "I think I've stopped the internal bleeding. But we need to get him to Medical." She tapped her combadge. =^= Daniels to Medical. Beam us to the Emergency Ward, and synthesize human red blood cells." She checked Gifford's dog-tag. "A Pos."

Melissa continued to work on the wound even after transport. "Prep him for surgery, we have to get the bullet out of him." She stated. "Virazine 5cc's and Miralan, 2cc's." She moved to speak with Gifford. "Major.. Can you hear me?"
Gifford could hear the Doc, he nodded...
"You've been shot by a projectile weapon. A very nasty one called a Magnum. I'm going to have to operate to save your arm."
He was a bit confused, Hope I don't lose and Arm... which Arm was it? His whole body was numb.
"You are fortunate the bullet didn't hit your head. I can fix a hole in your arm, but I'd have trouble treating a hole in your head." Melissa said with a smirk. "No, marines already have plenty of those."
Gifford let out a moan and tried to get up. That didn't work out well at all. He laid back and closed his Eye's. He was feeling pain now and it was very uncomfortable..
Melissa spoke, "Put him out...." She noted to her staff.
The surgery took almost two hours. Removing the bullet was the easy part, the hard part was treating the damage to the tissue in the arm. Some of the neurotissue had to be completely replaced.

Melissa approached as she noticed the Major begin to come around. "Welcome back to the world of the living Major."
He felt bad, hard to swallow and generally ill.. "Thanks, What's the verdict?"
"I've done what I can for your arm Major, but the arm is not out of the woods yet. You had a lot of tissue and neurological damage. Even if your arm moves again, you'll need intense physical therapy for at least a month before you can go back to combat status." Said Melissa. "Projectile Weapons are different than Energy based weapons, and I've had to use techniques that haven't been used since the Twenty-First Century."
"How long will it take before I can start using it?"
"There is the option of me building a bio-synthetic arm Major." Said the Doctor. "It would essentially act like a normal arm. Capable of sensory feeling and variable strength control. But I can only do that when I'm confident the neurological damage in your shoulder has improved."
"I suppose I really have know choice until then. Not really sure how I feel about the Bio-Synth though."
Melissa spoke, "Well, you have plenty of time to think about it. Though count yourself lucky Major. They used to lop arms off for gunshots during the American Civil War on Earth."
"I'm very thankful for the use of my arm. I shall consider any advice you can give me. But I'm just so damn hungry right now.."
Food helped as the Major was laid flat out. He throbbed until he slept, woke up and repeated the process. That went on for the first day. The swelling was minimal and he was checked quite often by the staff. Good food sleep and excellent care and he was up and about the next day. Still a bit numb in the upper body he could at least move around and make a head call when he needed to.
The news was pretty good at filling him in on the details of the arrest and murder. He had no idea the guy he was chasing was that psychopathic. Well he had found out. Apparently the marines had taken him out right after he refused to surrender and attacked. The details of all his other crimes were horrific. Gifford was debriefed by Security on the Third day just before his release from the facility. He tried to remember the other suspect that was there in the clearing but couldn't remember much other than his dark dress and non humane appearances.
John was escorted back to his quarters late that night to avoid any further drama and a sentry was placed at his door. He was very glad to be home and relax. Security would make sure he was safe and he could actually get some more downtime.. He was excited about his recent promotion. And surprised he received it considering his mission had failed.
