Mission:
Manhunt
Location: Main Infirmary
ON:
It was a rather quiet day in sickbay. The duty medic paused a few moments to observe Corrine. Cleaned up, under restraints, and still heavily sedated, she laid there with the bio-infuser steadily streaming and extracting materials to and from her body. With a restful sigh, the medic dimmed the lights and stepped out for a few moments.
Very shortly after, a motive protein gel quickly began issuing out of Corrie's nose and mouth. With numbed senses, there was no gag reflex and there was no breathing blockage. The diagnostic system rang no alert because the patient was in no distress. Also, the proteins in her stomach had already been registered during triage as being present. As an inactive mass, it looked to be nothing more than some xeno-lunch.
The blob divided, pouring into the restraint emitter system. Shortly afterwards, Corrie began the process of awakening. The programmed protein blob had mixed binary stimulant components, and her vital signs began rising quickly.
Outside, thee medic heard main computer calmly announce. ==Biobed restraint malfunction, ICU One.==
Not too alarmed, the medic entered. "Room lights, full." The patient was exactly as he had left her. With attention being upon the restraint system, he didn't notice Corrine's elevated vitals immediately. When he did, his first reaction was to stare with disbelief,. He whispered with disbelief, "It's not possible..." At that moment, he felt a mild sting on his hand. Looking sharply down, he saw a clear tendril had extruded and touched him. With a stab of panic, he reached to tap his combadge. He couldn't say anything, though, for he sank paralysed to the floor.
Activity in the infirmary was quiet that day. The staff enjoyed a much more restful pace than normal. The chief medical officer received what appeared to be a routine call, "Doctor Keller, would you please come to ICU One? There's something I think you should see."
Sitting in her office, Miranda was reading over a few medical updates that had just come through when the call came through. After hearing the message, she was quite confused, "ICU? There aren't any Patients in there," she said to herself before tapping her combadge, "Keller to ICU, I'm on my way"
In ICU, the medic broke out into snickers. Having been injected with some sort of happy juice, he dreamily laughed, "How was that? Did I sound serious enough?"
Corrine Steiner, now fully awakened, pat him on the shoulder. "You did wonderfully, my friend!"
Dr. Keller arrived to a very dimly lit room. To her surprise, the medic sat on the biobed, waving to her with a silly smile, "Hiii-iiii!" At that same moment, she was struck by a hypo which had been hurled dagger-style from the shadows. A blissful, ethereal sense of pleasure swept over her.
Feeling a little dizzy, Miranda looked around for who might have thrown the hypospray, "who....who's there" she said, before stumbling backwards.
Corrie hastily rushed Miranda to keep her from collapsing. "Hello, Doctor. Why don't you come over and have a comfy seat?" Settling her gently, Corrie sat with her. She gave a kindly smile, "I would love to join your crew and become part of the family! Do you think you could help me?"
The loopy medic gave a sentimental smile and tears welled up. "Ohhh, that is so sweeeet! I need a hug! Huggies!"
Unable to think straight, Miranda smiled, "Oh, i don't see why not. Is there somewhere you'd like to be assigned?"
More minutes rolled by with the escapee making no attempt to depart Sickbay. Instead, she enlisted the aid of the happy healers to fabricate a few items in the lab replicator. The circuit designs were provided, courtesy of one blobby protein circuit. When she was ready, a voice sounding very much like Miranda Keller's made a call. "Sickbay to Security... would you please dispatch a security team? I need to move my patient, and I need an escort." It wasn't an unreasonable request. Corrine Steiner came to this starbase for a reason. She could have friends here who were ready to 'help'.
When they arrived, they could see the prisoner laying still on the bio-bed, apparently still unconscious. The doctor and the medic sat nearby, laughing.
Sean entered the room backed up by two security officers. He was a bit miffed about Steiner making a mess of his promenade. He looked around and raised an eyebrow.
"Now, what is happening here he said in a very stern voice." His hand was resting on his phaser the most part of his career he hated wearing the thing, but after half the station was blown away he reckoned it was a necessary part of the uniform.
The medic turned to face him and stared at him for a few moments. He then pointed a finger and burst out into laughter.
If the good Lt. Commander felt any sense of alarm, it quickly faded. But then again, potent and fast acting laughing gas tends to do that.
Sean shook his head as a small grin appeared on his face crewman abbot and petty officer hardy where already laughing and started have an argument with 'who's on first'. For some reason Sean started laughing in a normal situation he would have given a stern look.
As soon as the newcomers were effectively incapacitated by the happy gas, Corrie opened her eyes. She pressed a light mask over her nose and mouth, then pushed through the weak sterile-surgery containment field. After relieving the redshirts of their phaser pistols, she then casually departed Sickbay. In sharp contrast to her arrival, her hair was nicely tied back, her skin was clear, and she now wore a crisp, new crew uniform. On her way out, she turned on the room's entry privacy field.
Inside, the two enlisted guards rolled with laughter.
"The prisoner! She's escaping!"
"And she got your phaser!"
"She got yours too, buckwheat!"
"I know!"
The two staggered, scarcely able to keep from passing out from the laughter.
The video image prompted stares of sheer disbelief. The medic, wearing dark sunglasses and no shirt, sang karaoke into a hypo as a microphone. Two of the guards were swing dancing together to the music.
Sean was arguing with the replicator, because he wanted a skittlebrau and the replicator stating that it didn't exist. Opening up the control panel and replacing the isolinear rods eventually prompted the sprinkler system to go off.
Crewman Abbot started jumping around yelling wet t-shirt contest and PO hardy screaming he was a judge in college and he knew how to judge a wet t-shirt contest.
Lt. Sharina Endilev had been busy doing a routine inspection of the systems when she was alerted to an alarm in Sickbay. Muttering, she pulled out of what she was doing and looked at the video feed for the ER. At first she thought it was static she was looking at, but on closer inspection she saw that the sprinkler system had gone off. With an exasperated sigh, the young woman traversed over to the ER, calling for Security on the way.
Upon entering, Sharina raised an eyebrow at what she was seeing. "What has gotten into everyone?" The woman was more than a little confused and when she spotted a man at the replicator she gritted her teeth. Stalking over she glared at him. "Excuse me."
She had no idea what was going on, but if someone was going to mess with the systems, it had better be an Engineer who knew what they were doing.
Sean, looked at the angry Andorian and grinned. "You're excused, toilet is back there." pointing behind him. "Now leave, Lieutenant, you're boring." When a Lieutenant Commander is fiddling in the rain with a replicator you better hide. "Now I want skittlebrau and this thing isn't working properly already. Tried to whack it with a wrench, but don't have a wrench, so I am readjusting it. I could use a phaser on it." Sean stood up and started looking for his phaser.
Sharina raised another eyebrow. "I think you've gone quite crazy. Sit down or I'll be forced to have you taken, sir." Boring? Was that REALLY what she was? That annoyed the hell out of her and she wouldn't stand for it. Not once had she ever been boring, stone wall maybe, but not boring. She didn't move. Instead she crossed her arms and stood there defiantly.
--[Station Ops]--
"Captain!" Brian called out from the situation table as Von stepped out of her office. "We have a problem."
As the captain came closer, the commander indicated the security feeds being displayed of the infirmary on the interactive top of the table. "Something's happened in the infirmary. Everyone down there is acting delirious, and... the ensign we detained earlier is missing."
