Fighter Modifications

Mission:
Picking Up the Pieces
Location: SB332 Engineering
Ed and Lynsi had finished their meeting with the station's XO. So far everything was going well. They had agreed upon a plan for the fighters and now it was time to see the Engineer's and see if the whole thing was even feasible. If they could fit the holo emitters to the fighters that would lighten the work load and help get more training for the nuggets.
"By the way, my son's transport made better time than expected. He'll be here tomorrow, if you want to go with me to pick him up." Ed said to Lynsi as they stepped into the turbolift.
Lynsi smiled at her CO as she stepped onto the turbolift. "I would love too," she answered. "Have you told him anything about the station yet?"
"Not really. I don't want to make him worry. Bad enough he'll see it when he gets here."
"Yeah, that's true. The engineering crews have been working non-stop since the attack. But there was a lot of clean up to be done before we could even think about rebuilding." Lynsi's somber expression turned to a more happy one. "But we will. The captain won't give up. This station will be as good as new by the time she's done with it."
"No it won't Lynsi. It's going to be better. We're going to make it as hard as possible for anything like this to ever happen again. We're going to be aggressive in prosecuting questionable vessels and getting them to surrender to boarding and inspection by the Marines and Security."
Lynsi cracked a smile. "I'm glad you're on our side."
Eventually the turbolift reached their destination, the hanger deck where the Pythons were stationed. Blaze had volunteered her squadron for the trials, and had even offered her bird as the first guinea pig, provided of course that the engineers weren't going to get her scratched. Lynsi led the way to the hanger for her and the CAG where the chief engineer and one of his officers were waiting.
"First tha giant hole, now they want us ta work on thar fighters? Where be the priorities in this establishment?" William said to the young engineer beside him.
Sharina looked up at him and shrugged. "I try and do the priorities first, but if I'm given an order, sir, I follow it. Sometimes you just have to go with it."
"Go with it? Are ye mad lass? Ye can't just let lads be pushin' ya around and pullin' ye all over tha place. Ye have to set yer priorities and stick to them. Of course ye can't be angerin' tha Captain, but most of them are pretty sensible ya know. I'm sure Captain Von nay be wantin' that hole in her starbase much longer." O'Donnell replied calming down slightly.
Sharina looked at him. But before she could respond two officers appeared then.
"Thanks for coming down Lieutenants." Ed said with a smile to the two engineers and offered his hand for a friendly handshake. "Major Ed Maxwell, the new CAG." He introduced himself.
"Ye DO realize that is still a GIANT hole in tha side of star base and we be behind schedule and have little time to spare for such extraneous projects." O'Donnell began throwing his hands up in the air.
Sharina shot a look at him, but kept her mouth shut. The woman didn't like the use of complaining. Yes the hole needed to be dealt with, but she didn't think complaining, and what sounded like insulting, would help. She turned to the man.
"What I think my colleague here is trying to say is that there are so few of us that we wouldn't be able to get everything done. A hole in a starbase IS a top priority matter."
"So is stepping up security to make sure another hole doesn't get made," Lynsi replied, hoping that she wasn't stepping on her new superior officer's toes. "We've had the blessing of Commander Ratchford to investigate this idea. That's why we've asked for this meeting. I'm not saying that this is more important than the repairs, but we wanted to discuss what kind of manpower was needed to get some birds in a test flight."
"If we can't make the people who put that hole in the station to begin with, and anyone else who has ideas like it, think twice about attacking us, that hole is going to be the least of your worries Lieutenant. Our offensive and defensive abilities are severely impaired right now. We need every advantage we can get right now otherwise we're all going to be looking for a new home, or..." Ed paused and shrugged. "We'll all be dead."
"There won't be much a station ta defend if we do not repair tha hole now will there be?" William stated with a huff before looking at Endilev. "Fine, this be yer problem. Grab a small team and make tha modifications. Minimum personnel tho, I have ta fix this station right away."
"I'm glad you finally saw sense. The Captain and XO have given this a high priority and I would hate to have to tell them you were being unreasonable." Ed said with a sweet smile. "Send a team down tomorrow morning. That will be all." He said dismissing the engineers. "Come on Blaze, lets go over the training reports in my office." He said to his XO.
"I don't care what ya tell the CO they be given' the hole a high priority. You'll get yer team when she's available." O'Donnell retorted before looking back to Endilev. "C'mon lass, let's get back ta engineerin'. I be needin' a status report on those EPS conduits."
Blaze watched the engineers walk away before turning back to Maxwell. "Wow," she said with a flat tone. "I suppose that could have gone better. Then again, it could have gone much worse." She stifled a laugh. "Let's go take a look at those reports."
