Mission: Ill Tidings
Location: Corridor [Deck 3, USS Montreal
Timeline: After the return of the Montreal to SB332

As soon as Austin had word that they'd docked back on 332, he'd bolted to the corridors to get on station. He'd been bumped into the Assistant Chief Engineer position during his special assignment aboard the USS Mythril. They'd needed someone with his unique understanding of Dominion War era engineering to get into a derelict Bajoran freighter that had been abandoned during the war.

The Balditar was one of the few D'jandib (which he was fairly certain translated to "really damn big" in Federation Standard) freighters to escape the Bajoran occupation, but it vanished not long after. That freighter's past had been locked inside for almost two decades, but it was uncorked now. And what a history it was.

Shaking his head free of his recollections, he realized that he recognized the man walking ahead of him. "Commander Jordan," He called, picking up the pace to fall in beside the man.

Gunning was jolted by his name being round the wrong way but it helped him get an idea of who he was being accosted by. He kept his gait as he caught the black of his new traveling companion's uniform drawing up next to him in his peripheral vision. He smiled. "The one and only. What can I do for you?"

"Nothing, sir. Just wanted to say thanks for letting me fill in the Chief Engineer spot. I was getting worried that I'd get assigned away from the station," Austin said with a smile.

"You're welcome, Lieutenant." Gunning had only seen Lieutenant Le Austin once or twice since they had returned from the ill-fated rescue mission to bring back Deakin. "How are you finding life back home?"

"I'll let you know when I get there," Austin joked. "I'm going to get on station and check in with the Engineering team, see if he needs me anywhere. If not, I'll head back here and get to work on our post mission check out."

"Fantastic." Gunning cracked a smile for what felt like the first time in days. "How was your assignment by the way? Did they find what they were after?"

"They found... the information they were after," Austin explained. "There are colony planets smaller than that damn ship," He said with a dry chuckle. "There was some sort of mutiny on board, but... most of the details are classified until the Federation gets a clearer picture of what went on, but it looks like it was Dominion sleeper agents. They just... they weren't acting right, Commander... that's all I can say on it. Something weird happened on that ship, and I'm not looking forward to when someone finds out what."

Jordan smiled. "I'll look forward that report getting published. In the mean time, I assume you're up to the speed on the Montreal's current status?"

"Aye, sir. She's in good shape right now, all systems are looking good. That being said, they'll be looking better once I get done with them," Austin said with a proud smile. If there was one thing that he knew, it was how to make a starship hum. And there were very few things he loved as much as doing that.

"Excellent stuff, Lieutenant." Gunning replied with a smile. "Let me know if you need any station resources pulled to help you out and I'll see what I can work out for you."

"Thank you, sir!" Austin said, as he picked up the pace to the airlock, "I'll see you in a little while!" And with that, he disappeared through the airlock... back home.
