The constant security presence was making him uncomfortable. If he could have had some of his marines around him then it might not have seemed like such an ordeal but these Starfleet security boys were as yellow in the bellies as they were in the collars.

He glared across the table at the older Vulcan woman. He'd never liked Vulcans much, especially not Vulcans whose sole purpose in life was to keep the peace. He'd been in this game too long to believe that there was ever going to be peace in this galaxy but yet here was a learned but naive woman sitting before him basically telling him that there was going to be no trouble with this conference. That those grey-faced Cardassians would just sit at a table and accept the fact that the Marines would be establishing forward bases in the Badlands.

It was hardly a surprise that they'd chosen here, the arse-end of nowhere for the meeting. If they had it anywhere near Cardassian space the subspace message would be there in minutes and the Cardassian remnant houses would be up in arms.

The Vulcan across the table, unlike the general, was the epitome of calm. Rohan's visible unease didn't phase the seasoned diplomat. She understood his concerns. Relations with the Cardassians had not been stellar since the end of the first Cardassian War. The affair with the Maquis and the Dominion certainly didn't help things. Although Starfleet did step up against the Klingon aggression, they did little to actually stop the invasion fleet. Finding peaceful solutions to their differences would not be easy, but T'Laarin had faith that it could be done, despite the general's reservations.

"We're going to need to keep tabs on the Cardassian delegation and their aides." Rohan offered. "I know you don't like it but it makes sense. They don't trust us and I certainly don't trust them."

T'Laarin looked back at the General across the table. There was no way that she was going to talk him down from his stance and could safely assume that he'd already got Starfleet Intelligence working on tapping the delegation. She just lifted her head slightly, neither agreeing nor disagreeing with him.
