"Making Preparations"

Posted on Wed Oct 20th, 2010 @ 5:47pm by Lieutenant JG Jonathan Royce

Mission: Ten Little Diplomats
Location: SB 332
Timeline: MD01 1945

Baric was the last to arrive at the diner in one of the large public areas of the starbase. There was a great deal of foot traffic, Starfleet and civilian, Humans, Vulcans, Andorians, and just about any other race one could think of.

The three that were key to the second phase of their operation looked at him expectantly. They weren't nervous. Baric had hand picked each of them for their experience in high risk missions that could be one-way excursions. They were calm under pressure, could think on their feet, made smart split-second decisions, were as good at getting out of a fight as they were at winning them. They were all Human and capable of blending in to any crowd and just disappearing in plane sight.

"Everyone settled in?" He asked.

"Yeah." Jenna answered. "We checked in at different desks and our rooms are spread out. There's nothing linking any of us."

"Good." Baric nodded. "The bull is in the chute, all I need to do is get someone to ride it."

"I saw a Ferengi just a few decks up." Lathan said. "I bet he could put you in touch with one."

Baric shook his head. "I hate dealing with Ferengi, it's always such a hassle and takes too damn long."

"But they're the best at getting what you need and keeping their mouths shut."

"Unless someone throws enough latinum at them."

"We've got enough to buy his silence."

Baric was resigned. "I'll also make it clear that if he talks, they'll be the last words out of his snaggle-toothed face."

He turned to Jenna, his technical expert. "What have you learned?"

"Nothing yet. Security is unbelievably tight. But I'll get you at least one window if not three when the farmer will be going from the house to the barn."

"Once I have that," Jack spoke up. "Then I can determine the best place to take photos from, along with the fastest way to woods in case the dogs pick up your scent."

"Alright." Baric said. "This is the last time we should be seen together. You've each got your scrambled and encoded communicators. Keep the chatter to a minimum and they'll just get lost in all the rest of the comm traffic on this monster."

Baric stood. "You all have your jobs. I've got a date with a Ferengi."

The four left and went their separate ways.
