Minor Computer Failure

Mission: Weathering the Storm
Location: Security Office
Timeline: Current

[ON]

Unlike all the other sensible people Paul was not yet in a shelter, he figured the small safe room would do the trick, he was actually about to get in it when one of the computer banks blew due to the approaching storm.

"Dammit!" he exclaimed as he walked over to the wall console, tapped a few keys to find out the problem, the screen was dead, so walking over to the replicator he replicated an assortment of relative isolinear chips and a few ODN cables to boot, and then his "special" kit that he normally uses for fixing the insides of computers. Unlike his short sting in Engineering, this was a walk in the park, as Alex would have said.

He returned to the broken terminal and pulls off the maintenance panel and lays down on his back and shimmies into the opening with his tools and supplies and using a tricorder scans the area and after locating the fault moves over to it and begins pulling out dead ODN cables stopping only to temporally divert power from the areas he was working on.

As he begun to get engrossed in his task, he began to talk to himself...

"Okay, now if I put that one there, move that one there, remove that dead chip, then replace it with a new one that should sort out that level OW" he said ending with a painful cry as he burned his fingers then he mumbled all the injustices and sucked his burned finger, then he shuffled over and began work on the next section.

This section was somewhat more damaged and caused Sharpe to grumble "Sometimes I wish I was not so good with computers, less of a headache, but it keeps me busy when Security is forgotten about" he said to himself and once again he was mumbling to himself what he was doing, after a few more burns and singes, he slid out of the cavity and straightened his back with a crack "dammit, I am getting too damned old for this OW" he said and began tapping on the screen which was now working properly.

"Hmm not good, not good at all" he tapped his commbadge "Lieutenant Sharpe to Lieutenant Madigan, I have some distressing news which you need to know about," he began.

Madigan was conducting a sweep of one of the shopping areas when his commbadge chirped. He slapped the emblem on his chest. "Madigan here. What's the problem, Sharpe?"

"Can you let the shelters know that if they have any engineers in them, they will have to manually adjust the shields in their area, this damn Storm has made its presence felt by disrupting systems from Security all the way to the Shelters and the stuff in between I am currently in the process of trying to repair and reroute to bring them back online, but so far no success" Sharpe said getting back under the compartments and shuffling in and over to where the fault was "this damn storm at least a ship could move out of its damned way Gah!" he exclaimed forgetting for a moment that the comms was open.

"I'll pass the message along," Madigan replied. "If it's a simple repair that you can handle, go for it. But if it's critical, or keeps you away from your patrols, leave it to the engineering teams."

Still inside the crevice and with a semi-distracted tone "I can get it done, but the engineers that are in the shelters do need to be alerted, I estimate that it will take me at least an hour of uninterrupted work, I will put in a safety check notice to engineering to double check when the current crisis is over, while I am confident in my work, notifying Engineering is the right thing to do. Must go now Lieutenant OW *he exclaimed as he spoke* the moment all is good, I will return to my patrol, so much for my break" he said.

Madigan nodded, although it was impossible for Sharpe to see him over the comm. "Alright then. Get it done. I'll make sure someone knows about the issue. Madigan out."

When the line was closed and mindful of having to return to his patrol duties he knuckled down and got to work, he had every right to be confident in his work, he was good at what he did, but he was also correct, he would have to notify Engineering as while his repairs were excellent work, they were his own classification as temporary fixes. As long as he stayed away from warp cores he was happy. Once again falling into his talking to himself as he fell into concentration with his work, he had to get it done so he could return to patrol duties.

As predicted it took him an hour to complete his task, as he put in the last re-connection he slid out of the crevice and returned the cover to it and checked the console, all was at 100%, so he signed off the terminal only after logging the repair and request with Engineering. With this complete he cleaned up his hands and face as best as he could and headed back out onto his patrol duties.
