Security Issues

Posted on Wed Dec 12th, 2018 @ 12:38am by Lieutenant Marc Madigan & Lieutenant Commander Sean O'Connell & Lieutenant Hadasa Netanyahu & Lieutenant Paul Sharpe & Warrant Officer William Browning

Mission: Weathering the Storm
Location: Security conference room
Timeline: Before storm [Backpost]

Browning was in the office when the garbled message from Starfleet Security came in, due to nature and the encoding it seemed important. Yet these where weird times, so after a quick deliberation between junior officers and senior NCO's. William scheduled the meeting in.

Browning looked around the conference room and nodded. "Let's get this over with."

Sharpe having been told that there was a briefing arrived ahead of the others and found a seat and sat down he looked at the other Officer there and nodded with a smile, "Is it alright if I invite Major Somers, she has done Security in her past, so she knows the basics? As you may need all the help you can get" he asked.

"No, sir, It's departmental. I'm just following orders, something about an announcement, sir. We received a garbled message from Starfleet Security. So standard procedure is to call in a meeting with the senior security staff. Ensign Lowry and somebody from OPS is working on the message right now. So we'll have an idea what's going on, sir. "

*shrugs* "Fair cop, but I have a feeling you may need the marine personnel at some point, but it seems, that time has not yet come," Sharpe said in response.

Marc caught the tail end of the conversation as he walked in. "The marines have their jobs, we have ours. If we need them, then that will be the Captain's decision. But it our job to keep the peace on the station. They work elsewhere." He took a seat at the table. "Sorry I'm late. I was in the middle of taking a statement. So any idea what's in this message?"

O'Connell entered the conference room he had seen a few jaws drop as he walked into Security and his face was set on the usual stoic feature the Security officer developed over the years.

"Have a seat and is everybody here yet?" O'Connell said as he walked to the replicator and ordered his cup of coffee." If you're wondering Security communication was to confirm your new Chief of Security. Me, Sean O'Connell. As for the need for marines............... nobody really needs the marines to be honest." He took his seat and looked around he was still wearing the standard gold uniform. He took a seat and then grabbed a padd.

Madigan laughed to himself. "I don't believe it, Sean O'Connell. I thought you escaped from this place." He stood up and offered his hand. "It's good to see you back, Commander."

"The Man, the Myth, the Legend and stuck back here with you ugly lot. How have you been doing Marc, still walking a beat?" Sean said.

"When I can," he said with a chuckle. "For some reason they decided to make me a supervisor. But you know me. I can't stay away."

Sharpe looked at them and hid a smile, then he looked up at O'Connell "I may be biased as my girlfriend is a Marine on this base duties aside it would be a logical use of manpower, but unlike most people I never dismiss the Marines Commander, they do the jobs we security scrubs cannot do, fine they have their jobs and we have ours" he said using some of Madigan's words "some of the marines have prior fleet experience too, but there seems to be a strong bias against them of late, sad really *sighs* still I do understand about separate use from the marines in this case, it would seem over-kill to use them on security, but logically it would be sound to use them, but I do understand why they are not" Sharpe commented without emotion.

"No bias, used the marines when I was undermanned, understaffed, but right now we have enough people to cover our assigned areas. When I started here as Chief of security, I was a Lieutenant JG, running security for this station and the whole sector, we had the Sojourner crisis and half the station was blown up. We are in better shape now. I'll have a word with the Marine CO to keep a few of her marines as back up, but what I do not want is Marines running patrols on the promenade. the Security detail is security. If civilians see the marines they might worry that an attack is imminent or worse a horde of Klingons is about to board." Wensing looked at Sharpe and smiled.

Hadasa slipped into the room, amidst what seemed to be a lively debate about 'Jar Heads' but chose not to voice her opinion. She was here to do a job, and that did not include quasi-political debates between officers.

Sharpe looked at the one speaking "Currently we do not have an MCO, the two most senior Marine Officer currently on the Starbase is the First Officer Colonel S'er'in'e who is also commander of the Fighter Wing I think and Major Somers G Company commander, you may have to go to the Colonel as by marine standards, he is technically the ranking Marine Officer on this station" he said as he noted another arrival into the briefing room.

"Just got on the station a few hours ago, I'll see what is needed when I get an idea of what is being done by the several sections. Then I can make an assessment about our Marine buddies. First, I need to know what has been prepared, do we have aid stations? extra officers assigned with decent crew rotations, I want the Investigating officers working on rumours or hearsay because securing the station means there is an opportunity for our criminal element." Sean looked around. "I think we can shift several people from different areas to securing the station. Our first job is safety for the civilians."

Madigan was the first to speak up. "We've already begun evacuating the civilians to the shelters, Commander. At least in the commercial districts, people went willingly for the most part. Some were worried about their shops, and others just didn't want to be bothered. But that's been pretty much par for the course."

"Also some Klingon's tried to cause a trouble, I had to stop a Major from putting them to the floor, they calmed eventually and headed to the shelters, but a lot of the inhabitants of this station are none too happy Commander" Sharpe reported.

O'Connell nodded along to the reports as the other chiefs gave their updates. It was clear that there was going to be a lot of work that still needed to be done.
