There was a reassuring click as Gunning's boots fastened up the inside of his foot. He took a step back and caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror. His black tunic had been replaced by a snazzy mustard and the jagged edges of the assignment patch were picked out in a resplendent gold trim. He had always been terrible at remembering old ranks but he thought that the brocade around his wrist marked him as a Lieutenant.

He smirked at his colleagues as they struggled with their own uniforms.

Deakin held up the red uniform shirt and looked at it suspiciously. "I seem to remember hearing something about red shirts and I don't think it was favourable," he said as he put it on. Even though it was the largest two armed version he could find, it still felt a little tight on him. There were no marking on the wrists, so he guessed he was a non-comm.

Allison probably struggled the longest. For her to blend in, it took a bit more work, and a bit more finally she stepped out from behind the makeshift partition. Starting from her feet and moving up she had the standard issue mid calf boots, followed by dark pantyhose, and finally the edge of the miniskirt dress of her red engineering uniform. The hem of the uniform didn’t even reach to her fingertips when she held her arms straight down. The wide neck at the top left a lot of exposed skin, and the color even clashed with her hair. While the uniform reminded her of something that she might wear on a date or when visiting one of the clubs on the station, she didn’t really like wearing it in front of her superior officers. She tried to pull the bottom of the dress down lower. “I suppose I’m ready to go,” she stated to the others having unsuccessfully adjusted the borrowed uniform.

"We'd better get up to the bridge and find out where we are." Gunning said flatly, checking beyond the doorway to ensure that they wouldn't be disturbed. "Hell, we'd better work out when we are too."

“We’re moving at warp. At least we know that much,” Price added. Miniskirt be damned, she was still a Starfleet engineer. “I can tell from the deck plates. I don’t know how fast we’re moving, but I suppose we can learn that from the bridge.”

Gunning stifled a chuckle at the Ensign's discomfort. "We're going to need an excuse to be up there. Are they due a shift change?"

Deakin accessed a nearby computer console and, although the interface took some getting used to, he was able to get the hang of it pretty quickly. "It's almost sixteen hundred," he said. "Shift change will happen soon. It looks like the ship also took on a cohort of new crew members at Starbase 16 a few days ago. That should be our cover if somebody doesn't know us."

"It's worth a try." Gunning replied as he began to move toward the exit to Main Engineering. "I'll go for the helm. Price, get me what you can on the ship's status from the engineering console and Deakin- monitor communications, let's see what's out there."
