Mission:
The Wainwright's Cadets
Location: Various Locations [USS Wainwright]
Timeline: After "Marked Improvement"
[Main Bridge - Deck 1]
"I thought this was supposed to be an exciting test or something," Tim Sutherland said from his spot at the security station. He sighed heavily and ran yet another security scan. That had to be about the fifteenth since he'd started. "Are they testing our patience?"
"Probably." Came a frustrated response from his partner in the station, Corbin Darhov, who was monitoring tactical with a bored expression spread across his face like disinterested marmalade.
[Main Engineering - Deck 7]
Vestara walked in slowly, she didn't want to draw attention and so far she hadn't. She smiled as she continued around silently observing the Cadets working. Many had been pulled into joint effort to examine internal circuitry of a main console and told by the assigned Chief Engineer to sort out any errors they saw.
The Trill wondered if the Cadet had made changes and was now helping test the others what was wrong. Great idea, Vestara thought. Practical applications of knowledge is the best way to reinforce learning. She agreed as she did the same for her job.
She gave the engine room one last round, answering a few technical questions as she went before she left. Vestara was happy so far with the Cadets.
[Monitoring Room - Deck 7]
Commander Jordan Gunning strode into the monitoring room- in actual fact a converted set of quarters and threw himself down onto one of the sofas which had been pushed back against the wall. At the large holographic situation table in the centre of the room stood Vestara Stronghold and Yzhara, both monitoring various bits and pieces.
Part of the 'rouse' would be to ensure that the cadets didn't realise that they were holed up in here preparing an exercise, but some sensor modifications saw to that.
"How're they doing?" Gunning asked, motioning toward the screen which held an image of the bridge crew going about their business.
Yzhara offered a shrug as her antennae twitched towards Gunning. Without turning to face him, she answered. "They're doing okay at the moment. At least they haven't broken anything. The pilot isn't as smooth on the controls as I would have preferred, but I suppose nobody's perfect."
"That's what we're here for Yzhara. They'll soon get an idea of what it means to perform under pressure. Are Lieutenant Le's modifications ready to activate?"
Vestara stood by and simply watched as Yzhara had answered Gunning's question the same as she would have. "It isn't over yet." Vestara said with a smile.
"Sorry I'm late," Le Austin said as he stepped into the room. "Had a couple of tweaks to make to the program before it was ready to run," He explained.
"Ah, good. You made it." Gunning greeted the Bajoran with a warm smile. "You ready to get this show on the road?"
"Ready when you are, sir," Austin said, intertwining his fingers and popping his knuckles with a mischievous grin.
"And the Cadets can't find this room?" Vestara asked curiously.
"Nope." Gunning's smile was stuck wide across his face. "As far as they know, there's no-one in this room. Our signatures and combadges will register as being in a variety of different locations across the ship at any one time, until the scenario calls on them to try and rescue us." He turned back towards Austin. "I'll let Lieutenant Le run you through the details.
[Main Bridge - Deck 1]
CSG St.Cloud entered the bridge after her 'personal time' in the ready room. Seeing Sutherland sitting in the center seat. Realized that she had forgotten to place someone in charge. She walked up to Sutherland. "Have I been relieved of being the Acting CO?" Her voice held no malice, just curiosity and was there a tinge of relief. She spun on her feet, looking over the busy bridge crew taking note that the instructors were missing from the bridge.
Cadet Phelps looked around the bridge as the other cadets made no move to answer. "I don't believe so. I think Sutherland was just put in charge of the bridge while you were away."
"Yep... you gotta so that before you leave the bridge though. I went ahead and took charge of things," He told her, confidently.
She relieved Cadet Sutherland from Captaincy and made him her XO on the spot. She settled in the Captain seat and began to read the reports.
Tim smiled broadly at the change in status and motioned one of the other cadets on the bridge to take over the security station, "What now, bosslady?" He asked with a lopsided grin.
[Jeffries Tube - Life Support Cluster]
Cadet Jasmine laid on her back tapping away at her wrist holo-padd. She had checked system diagnostics twice. Backup manual overrides were neatly organized and primed for use. Visual inspections matched computer readouts. All that remained to be done was browse fashion market catalogs at their next port of call.
[Main Bridge - Deck 1]
"We continue to the Communication Relay Station to drop off supplies. That's first on the agenda. Then we do a show of force at the Be-Aides Cluster." Errowyn looked up at Tim with a soft smile. "After that, if we get ahead of our schedule we should have enough time to check out the binary, as we head back to SB 332."
"Sounds like a plan to me, then! Onward and upward, oh Captain my Captain. How are all systems looking, Ops? Any hiccups since thing else wonky or are we good to go?" Tim asked, cheerily.
Errowyn was getting ready to respond, but was reminded she was Captain when the onduty Operation Officer that took her place at station spoke up. "Everything operating within normal parameters, Captain, XO."
"Awesome. This is going to be a piece of cake," Tim replied, clasping his hands behind his head and leaning back in the XOs chair.
Errowyn smiled, looking up at the main view screen as the Wainwright dropped from warp at the Communication Relay Station. "This will make or break the side trip to the Binary System." She turned to the Cadet Operations Officer. "Have the cargo-master begin prepping the supplies to be transferred over. And open contact with the Relay Station." Watching the relay station grow on the screen with it big solar panels and antennas sticking out the small central hub of several decks.
The Cadet Ops made the arrangements, looking back at the two in the Center seat. "We have contact." As the main view screen showed one of the station personnel.
"Hi, I'm Cadet Senior Grade St. Cloud, Acting Captain of the USS Wainwright. We'll be in transporter range in ten minutes for downloading of supplies." Errowyn gave the person on the Communications Relay Station, a smile.
"Been looking forward to the restocking, Captain. I'll send coordinates when you're in transporter range. You're a much better improvement that Commander Gunning. Is he still on Starbase?" The Commander of the station replied back with
a smile.
"Naw. He got shoved babysitting us Cadet, which obviously don't need such oversight." Errowyn replied with a smile. "I'll tell him you said 'hi'.
The Base Commander gave a chuckle. "Well I sure wouldn't mind babysitting you, Captain." He laughed at Errowyn expression. "Maybe beam over for a quick tour of the place?"
"I'll take a raincheck, Lieutenant Commander. We gotta make a show of force in the Be-Aides Cluster. Tight schedule." Errowyn smiled in return.
"Be careful. That's just a few light years from the Rit-Fed border. Been picking up a lot of comms traffic in that area," The base relay commander spoke, looking concerned.
The cadet helm officer spoke up, "We just entered transporter range, Captain."
"Coordinates please, Commander?" Errowyn nodded to the helm officer in acknowledgement. "Sutherland? Please oversee the transfer of supplies to the Relay Station."
[Monitoring Room - Deck 7]
Gunning frowned at the 'Commander' of the station which formed the first part of Lieutenant Le's modifications. The sensors of the Wainwright had been modified to see it, the modest holodeck had been rigged to run in conjunction with the communications and the cargo that the cadets were assigned to move off the ship was being beamed internally within the ship.
Everything seemed to be going to plan. "I suppose you think that wee dig was funny, Lieutenant?" He turned on the Bajoran with a hearty chuckle.
"I certainly enjoyed it," Yzhara replied with a twitch of her antennae and a grin.
"I suppose you're probably right. Let's start the run on the modifications before we make it out to the cluster."
"I'll start the main power failure now," Austin said, punching in commands into his console. "Here we go... sensors... weapons... life support... warp... impulse... it's all down. They can't move, can't defend themselves, and worse of all, they've got no life support... that they know of, anyway" He said with a smile.
