Mobilisation

Posted on Mon Nov 28th, 2016 @ 10:12pm by Commander Soleck & Lieutenant Commander Le Austin & Lieutenant Commander Marit Lantry M.D., Ph.D. & Commander Talia Varen & Ensign Jenna Steel & T'qin Elliot & Lieutenant Yzhara

Mission: Shadows and Whispers
Location: Main Bridge, USS Montreal

[ON]

Soleck stood with his hands clasped behind him as the trubolift brought them up to the bridge level, "I appreciate your coming along with us, Ambassador. Your skills will be most valuable on this mission I would wager," He said, politely.

"My skills?" T'qin raised an eyebrow. "I'm a diplomat. It's all about reading people. Though, if I've read this PADD right, I almost wonder if I'm being invited along for... Other reasons."

"I assure you there is no ulterior motive in my choice. What 'other reasons' to you refer to?" He asked, curiously, his Vulcan eyebrow arching high.

"This isn't my first time dealing with a planet-wide emergency." T'qin said, wincing slightly. "Nevermind. It's not important." She added, perhaps a bit too hastily. "I'll be happy to do my part, be it diplomat, medical examiner, or... whatever the situation calls for."

"Indeed," Soleck replied simple, nodding to the woman.

As the lift opened, he allowed the ambassador to depart onto the bridge first, then followed her out.

"May I have status report please," He said, calmly as he walked toward the center chair, hands clasped neatly behind his back. The crew had been quickly assembled and he wasn't quite sure who was manning what station abort the Montreal.

"We've got the final reports in from the planet, Sir," Le Austin said, standing up from his spot in the First Officer's chair. "They're not being overly forthcoming with their information, though," He explained, offering Soleck a PaDD. "There's definitely some sort of plague or sickness outbreak, and it sounds like they had it contained, but something happened... I guess we'll find out with we get there," He explained, shrugging, and offering an apologetic expression.

"Intirquing... if they are requesting help, you would think they would at least be more forthcoming as to what we're helping with," Soleck said, a note of annoyance in his voice. "And the ship's status?"

"I'll try and claw a bit more out of them." T'qin noted, with a scowl. "I know how to deal with uncooperative politicians." She smiled, lightly. "I'll borrow a comm panel in the guest quarters, and get to the bottom of it. Probably with my grumpy face."

Austin chuckled, "A critical tool in any good negotiator's arsenal," He said. "Ship is good. She's been fully security swept and we're clean as a whistle. No bugs, bombs, or anything else unsavory," He assured the captain. "And you know me, she's running at 99.987% efficiency," He said, grinning proudly.

Yzhara listened to the banter from her station at the helm. The Montreal was a smaller ship, so she was tasked with both helm control and operations from her console. While Commander Drusus was getting settled in, she was preparing for departure. "Sir, I've got the engines all warmed up for us and permission to disembark. We can get underway on your command."

"Thank you, Lieutenant," Soleck said as he settled into the center chair.

"I've made sure sickbay is prepared according to standard outbreak protocols," Marit reported, "but obviously, we would be better prepared if we had more information." Lantry looked at T'qin. "Ambassador, with your permission, I'd like to be present when you contact the area's political officials. Perhaps if they hear from a doctor directly and see that we genuinely want to help, they'd be more forthcoming."

"Two rules." T'qin said, holding up two fingers. "This is a political conversation, which means, for the safety of our future away teams, its tone must remain politically gentle, unless I say it needs not to be, and two, if we need not be, let me be not gentle. Think good cop, bad cop." She nodded. "I can handle being bad cop. We need them to trust you, doc. Diplomacy comes in funny methods, some times."

"What about our field readiness? It is safe to assume that this mission will involve a great deal of planet-side activity," He said.

"Don't I know it," Marit answered the ambassador wryly. "I think I can definitely handle good cop," she added, before turning to answer the inquiry regarding supplies.

"I made sure we were stocked up with a variety of supplies before we left. As I said, it would still be more helpful if we had more information, but I tried to anticipate what we might need. Hopefully, I've included enough."

"We can always ask the Starbase to send us more aid." T'qin noted. "Trust me. We're probably going to need to do it anyway. A planet wide emergency is never cut, and dry."

"I'm stocked for a star base wide emergency but I am sure to run low if we're taking care of a planetary outbreak. Ii should have enough isolation equipment for our people and some of the planetary medical staff. Ill place a order now for resupply , but that might not even make it here before we start to run low. I am certain that my staff will have no major problems. ". Varen double checked her calculations and nodded.

"I grabbed a few of the off duty emergency medical teams to come with us, they're checking over their kit and gear in the sickbay as we speak, do we know what kind of medical facilities they have available on planet?" Jenna asked, slightly nervous at being the junior officer on this mission.

"Sounds like we're good to go, Doc," Austin said with a confident nod. "We ready to go save some butts?"

"Butts, yes and everything else too" Talia offered with a half smile as she tucked a stray curl behind her pointed ear.

Soleck offered her a rarity: a smile on the face of an otherwise stone faced Vulcan, "Indeed, Lt. Commander Varen." He turned back to the helm, returning to his normal neutral expression, the only indication of intrigue at their mission being the slightly arched eye brow. "Helm, lay in a course. Engage, maximum warp."
